To split or not to split?

I cannot make up my mind and my fam doesn’t seem to care. We are booked 6 nights at CBR. Me, Husband, and three daughters (17, 15, and 12). We are going to celebrate my 17 year old’s high school graduation. Her only requests are Skyliner resort and to see Elsa. So I booked CBR (we stayed here last year comfortably). But the last day of the trip is my birthday, and I am really considering renting points for a Boardwalk studio and doing 3 CBR, 3 boardwalk. Price is relatively equal between 6 at CBR and the 3 and 3. What would you do?

If you're looking for any special dining reservations, you'll do better with one longer stay than a split stay (since your 60+10 will be longer).

I’m a fan of split stays but not a fan of the Boardwalk. Now if you said Yacht club I’d be in ! We stayed first floor off of the quiet pool and walked right out our patio to enjoy what felt like our own private pool and hot tub . The rooms have 2 real beds and the small pull down . My kids aren’t comfortable on the pull out couch of the studios . Our last stay in June was our best trip ever at the Yacht Club and Grand Floridian split stay . Nobody wanted to leave the YC though !

If I were to do the split, I don't think I would do CBR/BWV. You already have the DHS/EP Skyliner advantage with CBR. I think I would switch locations altogether and look to do a split with either AKV or one of the MK DVC resorts.

We go often and never do a trip without a Split Stay. Love changing resorts as it's like a whole new vacation.

We always try to stay at an Epcot (BWV/BCV) resort and an MK resort (BLT usually). Walking into 2 (3 with HS...especially from BWV plus great Skyliners to several other resorts) is a total win-win.

This is my biggest issue. The last split we did was CBR and Yacht and I think I’ll be disappointed with Boardwalk.

If it’s around the same price why not. I’m doing a 3 way split in December and it has ended up being like $100 cheaper then my value resort (Poly, BLT and OKW, all studio since I will be solo). So if this is something you want to do then I would.

We love the Boardwalk. BWV is one of our DVC Resorts. Walking distance to the back entrance of EPCOT and a short boat ride to Hollywood Studios. I would highly recommend going for your split stay. Happy Birthday Early!!

I love love split stays. 2 just right! The one down side is you need to stay organized so easy to pack up and move. For 2 adults?? easy peasy! With 3 kids? sounds like might be a big hassle/struggle. Its you birthday, you deserve to stay at Boardwalk or another premium resort for the whole trip! :)

Are you sure BWV is available? It tends to book quickly.

What month & year are you going?

My internal debate has been solved with this. I had inquired about renting points. Found an availability calendar (that may or may not be legit) on google and before I heard back about the points the calendar shows it’s no longer available.

I agree! But my 17 year old has her heart set on CBR for at least half of the time. I still want to split but I’m thinking it’s not in the cards for this trip. Just gives me another reason to come back!

Splitting your time between two hotels is a hassle. You need to repack and then move to the new location. Part of that time you will also be without a room once you move out. We like to unpack for the duration of our vacation and then only repack on the last day when departing. Which specific hotels are involved wouldn't change our view.

We just got back last week from our first split stay. I loved it! And I love BWI. We did stay on the Inn side in a water view room. It was absolutely the best part of our stay! BWI is my favorite resort so far.

As long as availability isn't an issue, do the split! Availability might be the thing that determines where you can stay. BC is my FAVE, but for the location, YC and BW are fine. BW pool still creeps me out. Not a fan! We have only not done a split once in 25 years of visiting. It gives you something to look forward to. A NEW place! New experiences. or new in that vacation anyway. Disney moving your luggage makes it easy, though we moved our own in the beginning. For us, the resort itself is half of the fun for our vacation, so we love the spice of moving. Although, we're moving between 5 resorts over 13 days this time. :crazy2: (2 is perfect, 3 was pushing on on a 9 day trip) That was a function of DVC availability once I decided to double our days. But it's OK, we'll have fun!

If you find someone that will put you on a waitlist, it still might be possible. :flower3: We've had waitlists come through and not. A smaller block of a few days are far more likely to acquire inside of the 7 month window than larger ones.

People say things like this all the time, but having actually done my first split stay last summer, it really isn’t a hassle with a modicum of organization and planning. Despite being a chronic overpacker, I’m quite organized, a big proponent of cubes. “Unpacking” for me involves putting cubes in drawers, so on my split I just used different colored cubes for GF and YC, and only unpacked the ones for GF and my toiletries. Stuff was put in my laundry bag as it was used. As a result, packing on moving day took all of 5 minutes. On moving day I called Bell Services up to my room and had them pick up my bags, then rope dropped AK. It was a seamless transition to YC. Of course for families with small children there’s more stuff involved and it would require more effort, but using the same general principles it only has to be a hassle if you make it one. Lots of families manage stress free splits.

The benefits being 2 vacations in one, experiencing different resort areas and being able to experience different levels if you go value/mod -> deluxe. The biggest for me though is more convenient transportation, especially if you split between MK/EP resorts. I took the buses exactly once on my trip, to AK. Every other park I got to walk to, which was amazing. Absolutely would do it again, though I would definitely reverse the order and probably Swolphin for Crescent Lake. We are doing a “split” of sorts on our next trip though it just involves adding a few days of CL at the same resort, Poly.
