To multi-resort or not multi-resort?

Okay, many of you have been answering my questions about buying DVC. Thank you!

Gotta tell our guide tomorrow if we are buying the SSR for 85$ a point. SSR is very nice, but I am more interested in staying at VWL, BCV, and HHI. Hubby likes the longer term for SSR, but I am sweating the home resort advantage.
Any ancedotal/experience based opinions on how hard it is to get reservations at VWL, BCV, and HHI in the 7 month window rather than the 11? I know that there are many variables in this situation (which size unit, which season, etc.), but I'm just looking for gut feelings from veterans of these resorts.

I have been told a lot that you buy where you stay. But what if DW and DH can't agree 100% on where to buy? And to the person out there who is thinking "buy all 4", all I can say is - don't tempt DH!

The general feeling on the boards seems to be that as time passes, it will become harder and harder to get 7 month window reservations. Right now, I think you stand a pretty good chance of getting what you want at almost any time of year (some obvious exceptions apply - dealing with when you want to go and renting GV's and other facilities that are low in numbers.)

Perhaps it would be best for you to buy a contract at SSR before it goes up again (taking the $85 per point sale price) and then look for resales in the future at other resorts if you have a problem getting that 7 month window reservation.

DH and I recently just bought at SSR. We love the BW and stayed there a few times and would've loved to have that be our home resort. We also love the Epcot resort area. With that being said, DH was adement on buying at SSR because of the extra years. We both love SSR, but we would put it second to BWV. We aren't really worried about the 7 month 11 month thing. We usually go in Nov. and we like all the WDW resorts so any would do for us! Our first experience making a ressie was easy! We got Vero Beach, last week in June at 6 months out. There is always the waitlist! I'm sure people cancell all the time increasing your chances.
Personally I would think having your home resort be where you love and plan to stay has more to do with WDW/Vero/HH. Meaning, don't buy at Vero if you plan on always going to WDW for Christmas!

I think juggling around the different resorts is harder when they have different point values...

So reserving x, then change to y, no need all sports to make sure we have somewhere to stay, because we're flying in on monday.....

so I believe the advice to buy where you stay is really the best, with the caveat if you can live with SSR, then buy there.

Disclaimer, SSR+OKW+BCV (one of those buy them all folks).

So for me with work schedules and airline tickets, I need to be able to make my plans far out.

I just bought BWV through Disney, and I made the decision to buy there because I really wanted my home resort to be in that area. When I met up with my guide earlier this month, and told her that I thought as DVC continues to grow, that the home resort advantage is going to be more important. She told me she didn't think it would be difficult to get things at the 7 month window down the line, but I don't see how it can't become an issue as they gain more and more DVC members.

I think it is best to buy where you really want to stay. I knew that I wouldn't be happy if I bought at Saratoga--it's just too spread out for me. It is a lot of money to stay if you won't be completely happy there.

At this point, we drive down from Georgia, but I would like to get my pilot license one of these days...

Okay, we decided. We're going for points at SSR only for now. DH made quite the convincing argument. I'm very excited and looking forward to getting our deposit done in the morning. Thanks for the advice!

WOO HOO! I am happy for you!

We dont own at SSR but are really looking forward to our first stay there.

What size unit are you interested in? If a studio, I'll tell you what MS said to me about booking at BCV for the very popular early December. She said that there are lots of studios there, so it's not too hard to get ressies there. One year I forgot to call right at 11 months, and at 10 1/2 months, for early December, there were only studios left at BCV and OKW. Thank goodness, I wanted BCV!
