To much Disney?

My DD,DH and myself went to England in Oct. While we were walking down a quaint street outside of London I asked my 4 year old DD if she liked England.
She said " Yes, it reminds me of WDW" I said "Why". She said "Because it's just like where we eat lunch in Epcot." We always get Fish-n-chips in England, I couldn't believe she made the connection between the two places. She is 4 and has been to WDW 7 times I'm starting to think maybe it's to much. :earboy2: No! It's never to much is it? Does anyone else think their kids have been to Disney to much?

Yes, I've wondered sometimes whether we've overdone it a bit. This Friday thru Monday will be trip #10 for our six-and-a-half year old son & there's a lot of WDW references that crop up no matter where we are. The most common one is "this is a Disney line" whenever we encounter a line stuck at a seeming standstilll :)

On the one hand, I wonder if maybe a few things too many are related in Disney terms, but at the same time the references are usually positive so I figure it isn't too bad. Even with things like the "Disney line", it's a sort of cue that "I really don't like standing in line, but I'm not going to fuss about it, sometimes you just gotta deal with it" ... and coming from a 6 y/o, that's a pretty grown-up approach IMO.

Well, my son doesn't see Disney as really being special anymore. I'm hoping as he gets older he realizes just how much hard work went into those trips (planning and money), and that it's been a true blessing we can go so often.

My 4 yr old daughter makes Mickey ears out of her cheerios, fruit loops, whatever is at hand (and we've only been twice with her). I think we've created a monster.

We've definately gone too much. It isn't even special for me anymore. This last trip both the wife and I looked at each other at the end of the 1st day and said "are you sick of this stuff too?" We both nodded yes. After day 3 we hightailed it home. Next vacation will be a mountain outdoor resort.

My DD4 has been to WDW 4 times in the last 14 months. She and I don't think it's too much since we always have such a great time. My family, friends, and co-workers however, think we go too much. They always say, Disney again? At DD's age though, it's the perfect vacation. I know she'll outgrow it in a few years, so we are enjoying it now as often as we can. Every trip on the ride home, she asks me when we can go back.

I think your episode verifies the accuracy of detail taken in the construction of World Showcase. If the real thing reminds someone of the copy, and that person is unmindful of the distinction, then the copy must be very good. Perhaps I've really been sitting in an English Pub all along.

I think its great that your daughted does that, maybe she's a future CM...you never know!

I'm afraid that even the most diehard of us Disney fans at some point or the other max out on the "magic".

I go about once a year now but it isn't the same as when I used to go about every four years. It is still enjoyable and it is partially because it gets me out of the Vermont snow for a couple of weeks. I'm not much of a beach person so going to Disney gives me something entertaining to do for a couple of weeks and stay warm.

The one year that I had my fill was in 1997 (the big cake year) when I went in February and again in March. I was pretty much Disney'd out by the end of the March trip. I do much more people watching now then in the early days and look in the nooks and crannies for something that I haven't seen before.

My next trip in February 2005 will be my 16th to the World. Guess I haven't gotten totally sick of it yet.

I agree, my DS's and DD are 7, 6, and 4. Right now this is the perfect vacation destination for them. They enjoy the magic and are able to do most everything. As they get older I'm sure we will work in some beach trips and such, but for now why not give them what they like. (not to mention that DW and I are Disney freaks :earboy2: )

That's why we now just visit every other year. We alternate years with a beach resort on some Caribbean Island or do a cruise and it really works well for us that way. We go again in February and everyone is so excited. Another perk with only going every 2 or 3 years is that there are quite a few new rides and attractions to see so there are a lot of new experiences. We like the buildup. It just keeps it special.

This sounds similar to my family. It almost seems like we don't know where to go besides Disney where there is something for everyone. There are only three people in my family but finding something we all will enjoy in a vacation can be rather difficult. It got to the point where we would say "where do you want to go on vacation, how about WDW". There is a point where you feel you have done everything you want and WDW loses that edge for you. It is like watching your favorite movie: you know the parts that thrill you, excite you, make you laugh, the parts you just want to skip, and every so often you catch something new. Yet if you take a break for a while you realize once more why you love it so much! :lovestruc

We share that concern and are trying to branch out. We live in Tampa and have seasonal passes and try to make sure that we do something else in summer (we used to also go in Summer). Last year we went to Chicago. It was easy to sell my DD8 on that experience because of American Girl Place. But I do worry that we focus too much on Disney.

That said, my wife cringes because I use Disney "themes" to convey lessons. If the issue is perseverance in the face of monumental odds, I mention Mulan, or Walt near failure at the beginning of his career, etc. She hates Math, but I mention that math is behind all the computerized wonder at Disney, etc. Sully and Mike about fights with friends, etc. If I am ever faced with how to convey a point she is skeptical about, I use Disney. Sometimes I think we are too "hooked on Disney"
