hate to say this...but it is one of the most boring books i've read. Alright, I only got to the part were Ms. Maudie's house burns down and then I quit because it was so boring. *yawn*

I have to say that out of all the books we were required to read over the summer way back in high school, this one was my favorite.

hmm..maybe the fact that i was extremely attention deficit at the time could have influenced my decision.

this was the first book i ever read cover to cover then reread cover to cover. i loved it (i should pick it up and reread it again soon). now-the great gatsby, great expectations, and anything by shakespere uuuugh! it was torture getting through these (never finished the scarlett letter or uncle tom's cabin).

That's one of mine and my DD's (20 yrs old) favorite books of all time!

Its also one of the BEST movies made from a book ever. IMHO :sunny:

Both DD and I love this book.

And oh, I hope Snoopy finds this thread, she'll defend Atticus Finch until the death. :teeth:

Collecting my thoughts and all I have to say is: To Kill A Mockingbird is a Pulitzer Prize winning American Classic and, imho, one of the ten best books ever written. And yes, one heck of a movie. :)

I'm a bit speechless at the moment.

To each their own I guess....I can't imagine anyone not loving this book. OP, perhaps give it another try....its a real gem! :)

Agreed. You have to give it another go. Or at least see the movie. :)

That book is arguably the best peice of literature ever written. The way the characters intertwine with each other are stunning, the metaphors are simply amazing. The book is full of passion, with well developed characters and imagery. That parts of the plot are uncomfortable, perhaps even distasteful makes the book that much more endearing. It's not sugar coated, it's not fluff, it's real. And that's what makes it a classic.

Agree. And it is one of the few books I read in school that I actually read cover to cover. I have the movie on DVD too.

Maybe try the audio version, I've got some attention issues and have found that I enjoy and remember much more about books I listen too over ones I read. When I read I tend to skip too much and lose focus, my mind drifts. Don't know of the reasons and I'm sure it's not true for everyone but I've found a new appreciation for books since I started "listening" to them.

SSB has to link to film world .... did you know the ONLY novel written by author? She is featured big time in "Capote", as was great friend of Truman Capote's....

Capote use to spend summers with his aunt who lived next door to Harper Lee's family. In the book she modeled the character of Dill after Capote.

This is one of my favorite books. I still have my copy from grade school!
