We are celebrating dd's 3rd b-day and first disney trip this weekend. I am so sad about this hurricane. DH said we could leave on Thurs instead of Friday at 11am but I am worried. We are staying at Cont on Friday night and then off to OKW - but will it be okay to move? Also, taking a 3 yr old this weekend - I am thinking no electricity, scary etc.. Not a way to spend your b-day or first dinsey trip. But we have 1 wk ressies Sat 4th to Sat 11th from a DVC member at OKW and I don't even know if I can change them - I am awaiting an email back from him.

Just venting and looking for opinions!

If you can leave early and get settled and STAY put, I would probably try and go. WE were there for Floyd and everything seemed to be very methodical and planned for events like this. I felt safe and followed all of the directions. However, Floyed was not a storm of this magnitude or size. If you do go, make sure you take things to keep you dd occupied in the room :) Good luck...stay safe!

We are also booked from teh 4th - 11th and are going Friday to try to get in early and ride it out. Changing the dates isn't an option for several reasons, so we will just hope for the best.

I read on here somewhere that it won't hit Orlando until Sunday and that by then they expect it to drop down to a Cat 2, which is much better sounding to have to go through, although still not much fun.

My sister lives in Orlando, (and works at a Magical Place ;)) and is thinking about just coming and staying with us so that she can be there to help out if other CMs can't make it in.

Good luck and maybe we will see you there!

If I were you Id call and reschedule. Why would you want to put your family in danger? As we saw with Charley, hurricanes can change tracks and intensity very quickly and forecasters cant always predict how strong they will be when they hit. You will also have to deal with potential tornados that are spawned from hurricanes. On the theme parks board, someone asked about staying or leaving, and just about every reply was to leave. If the airport is damaged, flights in and out will be a mess for some time. Just being closed for day is going to mess things up. Think about all the people who will be needing to leave their homes and come to Orlando. By changing your plans, you can free up rooms and supplies that they will greatly need. They also said that life after a hurricane is really bad. No electricity, credit cards/gas pumps/etc will not work, water & food may be in short supply, the smells from rotting debris, etc will be horrible, the bugs will be bad, flooding, etc. There are too many dangers afterwards (almost worse than the storm itself) and personally I would not put my family at risk, especially not a 3 yr old. Do you think a 3 yr old will be happy sitting in a dark hotel room with possibly limited food/water and not much to do? I know if the parks werent open, life would be miserable with a 3 yr old constantly asking when are we going to MK. And from what Ive heard, theyre still cleaning up some areas from Charley. The added debris can be a huge danger. Why would you want to risk it or ruin a vacation with all the possible furstrations. Reschedule and let someone who really needs your room and supplies get it instead. It will be your way of helping others!

Well we are postponing - just not sure when yet. We have ressies to Contemporary for Thurs-Fri that we are going to cancel for sure. I am trying to see if I can push forward our OKW ressie from Sat to Sat to Wed to Wed and maybe fly in on Tues night - of course depending on where the storm is on the east coast or how hard it hit.

DH and I made the agreement not to put 3yr old dd in any danger or at least SEVERE boredom. Even if Disney doesn't get hit directly - a lot of their CM's will. I just think it won't be the "full" experience we were hoping to get. Also - I am hoping my extra rooms will go to some residents in need.

Floridians and Disney - I am praying for you!

If you haven't heard from your DVC member yet, MS is letting anyone cancel a reservation with no penalty. Usually, our points are put into a holding account, but they are allowing cancellations and putting the points back into our use year.

I was talking to a fellow who lost his home in Hurricane Andrew. He was telling me that nearly all the deaths came AFTER the hurricane.
