Is it possible to lose weight while at Disney. I know I will be eating a lot, but for whatever reason, I have been pigging out before the trip, mostly the last two weeks and put on about 8 lbs. I am pretty small anyway, but I do want to make sure I walk this off while in the World. Has anyone gone to Disney, eaten what they wanted and NOT gained a ton of weight?

Am I silly to even be concerned about this?

I tend to eat right and exercise alot...but not when I am at disney...even with all the walking, I'm eating food I would not normally eat...and loving every bit of it. I always gain a little when I am there. AND THAT"S OK!!!:teeth:

don't be overly concerned about it - you're on vacation, you're supposed to enjoy yourself!!

I've actually lost weight (or maintained at the very least) while at Disney. I would usually have a light breakfast (coffee and a muffin and fruit from concierge did it for me), a semi-decent lunch (would share most of it with hubby) and a good sized meal with drinks at night. I dont' drink alot of soda - so I mostly had a water bottle on me at all times...and I tried to make smarter choices. (if I had fries at lunch - none for dinner). Tried to limit the fried food...and choose chicken over burgers more often.

It's hard, I know - I had to have a couple mickey heads while down there - and soft serve ice-cream...but you really do walk so much...

bottom line - don't be concerned - go and enjoy your trip!

A few years ago I went on a diet and lost 35 pounds. Part of what got me through the last couple of months was knowing that my reward would be to eat whatever I wanted when I was at Disney. And boy did I. I still try to watch my diet at home, but vacation is vacation. Unless your doctor has told you you can't eat something, you should eat whatever you want on vacation. I also found that I gain very little weight at Disney because of all the walking. Of course I'm a commando tourer so I'm go-go-go all day long. So I don't think you should worry about it, but if you are a little concerned, hit the exercise room in the resort, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and still eat what you want :)

With all that walking, I always lose a couple of pounds at WDW. I walk a couple of miles on the treadmill several days a week, but that doesn't even compare to the exercise I get there! And, I have to eat more while I'm there to keep my blood sugar up, so I end up having two breakfasts, two lunches, and a dinner. I never do eat huge meals all at once, though, I'm more of a big nibbler. I think it would really depend on your body type and metabolism, but it is possible.

My advice would be eat some of the foods you want but watch how much of it you eat. When ever I go on a vacation, I tend to eat some foods I would normally not eat in my everyday life. But I do pay attention to how much I am eating. Too much and you'll feel sick!..Well at least I do...And It's not just what you eat but how much of it. All about portions. Besides, you'll be walking a lot which will be good exercise!! I think you'll do just fine! Oh yeah, and you might want to eat less for dinner and have a good breakfast and a small lunch. That way you can get your energy early in the day.

I think it would be very easy to lose weight there considering the prices of the food! ;) But seriously, you can get salad or fruit at a lot of places. And you'll do a lot of walking! Doing laps in the pool will help too. :)

I lost 2-3 pounds when I was at WDW last week. I wore a pedometer some of the days and walked 17,000-24,000 steps a day. At home I struggle to get my 10,000 steps in and on a good day at home (if I take a walk) I can get in 12,000 steps, so I did a lot of walking at WDW.

I've never gained weight while at WDW! But I have a fast metabolism so it's actually hard for me to gain weight. (Expect when I am pregnant like right now! LOL!)

But I say enjoy your trip, eat what you want and worry about the weight when you're back home! ;)

Ditto! :D
When Im on vacation, thats what Im on vacation from, my diet and exercise routine. ;)

You lose weight at Disney the same way you do everywhere else -- you take in fewer calories than you burn off. If it's worrying you, then make a list of foods you will say "no" to (funnel cakes, eclairs, whatever) and then a list of splurge foods that you promise to only eat once while you're there. Drink water instead of soda so that you're not consuming empty calories. Don't ride when you can walk (walk from the parking lot to the park, don't take the tram, for example). And then have fun. If you gain a little, so be it. If you don't, yay ... that's great! But it's not like you're coming out of WDW 30 pounds heavier than when you went in. So why worry?

I take a "carb" blocker with me when we go to WDW. Take one a half hour before a meal, and if there are a lot of carbs in the meal, take another half way through. With all the walking and the blockers, I lose weight.:)

I've had a few pounds creep up on me lately too - I think it is because a)I'm spending so much time sitting on my butt to look at these boards and b)everytime I read the restaurant reviews I am starving:p

But today, I took control and took my 2 dogs for a 7 mile walk! Whooo Hooo and I am strictly south-beaching it until Disney!

I know I'll indulge a bit while I'm there, but I'll stick mainly to good-for-you stuff for meals (salads, fish, chicken) and have an occassional dessert (I never eat desserts normally) and an extra lapu-lapu now and then!!! I'm going to try not to stress about it...I'll get right back on the old diet and exercise treadmill once I get home!!

see you there!

I'm going to move this to our WISH board for you. You will get some great advice there.

I follow the Atkins way of eating and since I began in January, 2003 I have made 4 trips to WDW, never gained any weight.

I know it can be done :)

i've never gained weight at wdw and i have a very very slow metabolism and gain weight easily. i just can't sit still while i'm there even when i have a week i still have to see how much i can do. i get very hyper. and i pretty much eat what i want while i'm there, but i don't eat fried foods period because they make me very sick.

In December we went to WDW for 16 days. I had already lost about 50 pounds. What I decided to was eat like I hope to do once I reach my goal weight. I didn't focus too much attention to food. I ate what I felt like eating, but I didn't go over board just because I was on vacation! When we got home I had put on 1 pound but it was also TOM! The week after I lost 5 pounds. So it is possible to go to WDW and lose weight. If I were you I just wouldn't worry about it. Hope that you have a great trip :hyper:

Thanks everyone for the great advice.

I think part of it is that up here in MA it has been SO cold the last month or so, I've spent more time than usual inside sitting around reading these boards and doing other "sit down" planning!

I can't wait to walk it off at WDW :)
