To Fax or Not to Fax

On my previous visits I have faxed my room preferences according to instructions on Deb's site. Did I read somewhere on these boards that I should not worry with that now? Seems like I read that they are receiving so many that they aren't really using them anymore

Anyone?

I guess whether to fax or not is a matter of some discussion right now.

It looks like its one of those things that has grown a little out of hand for the room assigners (according to some posts).

I have never faxed requests and have always had good luck with rooms. In fact, when I was at WL 10/15-22, I was very pleased. I go the non-smoking room I requested at the time of my rez and I got upgraded to a courtyard view and king bed room.

Since most of the rooms are assigned at check in, the best way to make sure your requests are noted is to make sure they are on the original reservation you made with CRO.

We included room request with our origianl ressie for recent trip to BC...standard view, full balcony and please no view of a rooftop or garbage cans....

When we were checking in I reminded the CM that our only requests were to have a full balcony and not a horrible view...we were upgraded to a perfect waterview room!!! If I had faxed a request for a certain room I think we probably would have gotten it instead of the wonderful location we did receive...be careful what you ask for you might miss out on something better...

I have heard that they don't pay much attention to the faxes as there are so many...I would ask at check-in...

I also have never faxed room requests. I usually note one or two requests (always non-smoking, and maybe 1 other request, depending on the resort) when I make my original reservation by phone. I also have had good results in receiving unsolicited upgrades at check-in, and I can't help but wondering if it has something to do with my not bombarding them with faxes and all sorts of specific requests.

Very true. If you get your room preassigned, your chances of any surprise upgrades are slim and none.

The faxes are the preferences of the guest. Disney would never just ignore them any more than any other business would when their customers express what they want.

The room assigners will make every effort to accommodate what you ask for but you must always remember that not every room in a resort becomes available to be assigned every day. That means that there are often limitations on how many rooms with balconies are available or how many rooms near the elevators are available or how many connecting rooms there are to be assigned on any given day.

If you want non-smoking as your first priority, then it may not be near the bus stop or the pool. Room assigners are good but they can't make rooms appear when there aren't any.

I faxed a request for our labor day weekend trip and mentioned that it was our engagement anniversary. We were upgraded from a BC water view to a wonderful 1 bedroom suite with a HUGE balcony and view.
