I really love the idea of the elf adventures. But trying to figure out how I can do this with my nephew who is staying at my moms while my sister is working a few towns away and is staying at a motel coming home only on days off which are schools days so he doesn't see his mom very much. I help my mom take care of him when I can after work and on the weekends. I usually leave at his bedtime because he is hard to get to sleep and needs a routine or he'll stay up until the cows come home, so to speak.
Last year I got a muslin country craft type elf with salt and pepper colored hair off of a well known bidding site. When he arrived he never pretty much stayed near the computer desk and visiable to my nephew.

Do you think this elf can be our magic elf? And, what kind of things can I do with a busy schedual for a 5 yr. old since it would be hard to set up sceens after my nephew goes to bed? My mom usually goes to bed the same time as my nephew because when she was working she went to bed at 8.

I don't know why the elf couldn't do things during the day while he wasn't home instead of at night? Are you there before he get's home from school? Maybe it could be a routine for him to look for the magic elf when he got home from school, this way it would give you time to set up something- remember it doesn't have to be an elaborate scene, you can have the elf sitting on the couch with cookies or something simple. Keep it simple, that's my theory.

so anytime would work - it's the surprise of finding him that's what's special - just think of him coming home and doing the usual things that he does and find a special place to put the elf everyday -

we're thinking of doing this - and i'm thinking one morning in the bathroom by his toothbrush - one afternoon sitting on the stairs waitiing for him - it could be a quick switch as soon as he leaves - or moves out of a room -

I work 8:30-5:00. He is at school 8:30-5:30. I got some art and craft things for the elf to leave that we can do in the evenings and weekends. My nephew needs a new toothbrush that would be a good place to start. I will; probably keep to simple set ups. Do more of a hide and seek. So no flour snowangels, TPing, or underwear on thew tree. I could leave some cookie dough and snowman soup. What other simple not so messy ideas could I do? Thanks.

The dollar store sells foam crafts..you could set up the elf with foam crafts and glue for a weekend activity.
Or you can buy a elf themed movie and leave the movie by the elf with a pack of microwave popcorn and drinks. Also at the dollar store I found popcorn buckets likethey have at the movies..
You dont have to do something everyday either.....its all up to you...
