Before my post gets outa hand. I just wanted to post here and say thank you to all who have replied to my post in the past, and for some great info along the way.

My frustration is not with members, and I do understand the whole thing, and worry for ALL who have been affected by this storm, and my family in West palm is hunkered down now and still do not know the extent of the damge to their homes etc. I have been on the phone throught the day with them. Im with family now, in a hotel, and we have been weathering out the storm...

My post seemed to be taken out of context this is fine, Im a veteran IT pro and BBS user, I see this all the time. But for those who decided to jump before trying to understand what I was saying, I guess you can view it eitherway.

In closing I want to say thanks. And I did not want to add more fuel to the fire so I decided to post this message here.

Be safe and hope all is well for you FLA folks once this all goes away.

The stress you must be feeling - I do hope things turn around for you and your family! It's so hard when you look forward to a vacation for so long - These hurricanes have done such tremendous harm - I really do hope it starts to turn around for you and for others -

I read your other post. Just remember it is a HURRICANE, an act of Mother Nature. It is beyond DCL's control. Their first priority is the safety of their passengers. Many people are going thru a lot right now:losing property, no power or phones. Yes it has messed up your vacation but at least you are safe and unharmed. Hurricanes can be very dangerous. Think of the liability of DCL if they did not take precautions. Then what would you say if people were harmed because they took a chance and went right into the hurricane anyway??? These things are unpredictable.

BigBaby,

I understand your frustration. Hope you and your family are safe 'coz Frances is heading your way (Tampa). Hope you'll be able to make it to PC on Tuesday, that is when Magic will be Disembarking (?). I say (?) is because noone knows when PC will be open for business.

Bigbaby--

I heard you saying that you wished DCL had been more proactive--for those of us watching this thing from other parts of the country, it seemed very evident for quite some time now that things would not be back to "normal" for sailings on Monday. The other side of the coin would be if they made a call to cancel, then it fizzled, but they now have perhaps more transportation and cancellation nightmares than they PERHAPS might have had.

I understand the frustration, while also having some idea about the bigger context of chaos and confusion

I, too, understand the frustrations expressed on the various threads by those whose vactions have been severely impacted by Frances. Monday-morning (literally) quarterbacking is easy with the vantage of hindsight. DCL was, and continues to be, in a huge no-win situation. No matter what or when they decided a particular course of action, a large number of people would be inconvenienced and had their vacations significantly altered. I'm sure the other cruise lines are receiving the opposite end of backlash with questions as to why shortened cruises couldn't have been arranged.

DCL relies on the forecasts and predictions they receive. I doubt anyone forsaw the actuality of Frances slowing to near-stationary position just off-shore on Saturday. The extremely slow movement of this storm has been a planning nightmare.

Had DCL cancelled, as some have advised, earlier last week and the storm veered off in another direction, the hue and cry would have been that DCL was premature in their decision, etc. etc.

I realize none of this matters to anyone sitting and feeling in limbo. I post this as an "outside" but very interested observer given the date of our next cruise.

Good luck to everyone, especially to the Floridians most impacted and those staffing the short-handed call centers.

I understand your frustration. Most of my vacations are planned well in advance and I would be very upset if I had to sit on my heels and wait for a cruiseline to tell me what the rest of my plans would be.

That said, it is my belief that DCL is doing whatever it can. I am faulting noone with this.

Also, I feel the tone of your post was very clear-you are upset! There was no reason to believe that we fellow DIS'ers woul dbe supportive.

Thing is-many of the posters here either live in FLA or have relatives there-just like you. Everyone is tense. Please don't take reactions in a time of stress too seriously.

Everyone take care

Ursula

BigBaby,
Look at it this way you could have been stuck in NY with 60 inches of snow and not able to get to the airport to get a flight out.
I think we can all understand your frustration. You've planned, paid and waited along time for your cruise and this has to happen.
Not fair, is it?

Go on and enjoy what you can. Spend that onboard credit, grab up on that discount for that next cruise and remember to book it while onboard and save more.

Have a great time
