To carseat or not to carseat....

We are planning on flying for our next Disney trip in December and this will be the first time I have a carseat dilema. My DD will almost be 2 1/2 when we go and I am wondering if I will be required to put her in a carseat on the flight? I know all the safety concerns and have been assuming that we would take it, but the more I think about dragging it around with us the less I want to take it? I think she would sit just fine in the seat without it. What do I do with it using ME? Does the buses have seatbelts? I'm assuming not. Will they store it for me on the bus? Every trip we have made my kids have either been a lap child or old enough to not need the carseat on the plane.

What would you do?

We took our almost 2 year old in May (one week away from her birthday) she is a big girl- 32lbs, and 36 inches tall. We did not bring a carseat for her or our 4 yr old. We flew southwest and had no problems with the girls staying in their seats or being uncomfortable. We had a shuttle form the airport to the hotel in DTD and then took the shuttles to the parks everyday, and the cabs we took to and from Sea World had carseats in them, so we did not feel we needed to take seats. Like I said both of our girls are very tall with LONG legs- if they would have been in their seats they would have surely been kicking the people in front of us who HAD to have their seats full reclined the whole flight!!I don't think they would have been able to put theit tray down either- we took snacks, coloring books and small disney figurines to play with. We also did not want to be as you said dragging two seats through the airports with all of our other things and two kids- we did take our umbrella stroller just for the airport though for the little one. This is just our experience and opinion so please don't flame me! :wave2:

We arn't bringing a car seat for our 3 year old. I have only seen a preschooler in a carseat on a plane once. I am sure it is safer and I would never put my dd in our car without a car seat but on a plane or bus I don't bother. But it is what you feel best with!!!

The only time I used a car seat on a plane was when the kids were in the carrier type seat.

Last year we took a carseat for our 18 month old DD and it was so tight. She kept kicking the persons seat in front of her. This year the car seat is getting checked. We're renting a car, so we have to have a carseat, but she will not be using it on the plane.

we are leaving in 9 days and will be flying. My DS is 5 and I wasn't sure what to do either. Nothing said we had to use one and we will be taking DME to the resort. Then I know we can't use one on the Disney busses - sometime you do good to get a seat to sit in. So, no we aren't taking a car seat. This is just easier for us. I think in a seat belt he will be just as safe as his car seat for what we will be riding in.
