To Carry or not to Carry

Ok so I know we need our stroller while in Disney that's an easy one
but what do we do with our 21 lb+ 7 month old while we are standing online?

Does anyone have any suggestions?
He is tooo big for the infant carrier
Some have suggested the backpack larger carrier but IMO it is too bulky to lug around when not using it

and now someone has suggested a Hip hammock

but I wanted to come to the experts and see how you all handle it

The babysling saved me (or at least my back) when standing in line. You can sling it around on your hip, so it is probably like the hip hammock you mentioned that I'm not familiar with. It's easy to take off and on, and squishes up easily into a diaper bag. With a baby under age 1, it's the way to go at WDW. You might like it for around the house as well....

I just did a ton of research on baby carriers b/c carrying my 17lb 5 month old in the Bjorn was killing my shoulders.

Check out thebabywearer.com. They have reviews of almost every carrier out there. I ended up buying an 'Asian Baby Carrier' style from meiteibaby.com and love it. It even comes with a nice carrying bag, it folds up small and you can easily store it in your stroller basket. I have 'worn' her in the carrier to Target & the grocery store b/c she can't quite sit up on her own in the cart, but she is already out of her infant car seat. You can wear the baby in front (facing in), on the hip (my favorite) or on your back. It's also reverseable so Dad can wear it (reverses to plain black) and it's not too 'girly.'

Lots of moms have commented on it and asked where I got it. I am also on the wait list to buy a kolamo carrier which is a similar style (I wanted 2, one black & one a more casual khaki color).

If your baby is in the carrier, then you can just get right on the ride and he will be securely 'fastened' to you (if he is in the front/hip carry).

We did it the old fashioned way, we just held them in our arms. We did have to switch back and forth a bit. Our DS was a big boy, but we managed. There are some lines where you don't have the abandon the stroller until you get pretty close.

i have a pouch sling i would not go to disney without! perfect for holding the baby on your hip. simple to use and small to store. www.hotslings.com

I also did tons of research on this as our twins have outgrown the bjorn carriers too. I opted for an Ergo carrier because my husband didn't want any sort of wrap or sling. We have not tried the Ergo at Disney yet, but I've worn it around the house and to grocery stores. It works very well! Take a look at it on several different websites. I ordered mine from:

We just carried them as well, my dd was old enough to stand by us sometimes, but usually DH and I each had a kid in our arms while on lines.

Another vote for Hotslings! I have yet to use mine, but cant wait! I used a Bjorn with my son (12+ lbs at birth) and it killed my back. I did a lot of research on slings this time and think Ive found the best. Kristen is wonderful to work with and will do everything to get the right size. She has several kinds of fabrics and some reversibles (you could wear the pattern side, hubby the plain side). She also has a solarveil pouch which is airy, can be worn in the water, and provide sunblock. All her items can be put in a diaper bag easily and you can get them with a bit of padding around the leg rails to prevent marks. She just picked out some new fabrics, but if you need them soon, they got to me in SC in about 2-3 days. There are no rings or snaps to fuss with, rub you which is nice. You can use different holds with it too. Check out her website as listed above.

I used our Snugglie until the boys were at least 13-15 months. In the front, facing forward to sleep, facing out to see, or on the back. I used it until they were almost 30lbs. Now, I am small and it was tough, but much easier than carrying everywhere. A 7 month old, is not too big for that.

my 6 1/2 month old has not fit comfortable in the Baby Bjorn in months!!

He is 21 1/2 lbs right now and will be over 22 lbs by our trip next month!!!

so switching back and forth is not an option for longer lines--

so we ended up with the Hip Hammock

I loved my Hip Hammock and used it for the lines!

But did you just get one or is it older? I ask because there is a recall on them. I found out on another thread a few days ago and went to the website for the info. good luck!

We have this great stroller/backpack carrier that is perfect for this age but they still wouldn't let you take it in line, or at least they didn't let us when dd#1 was a baby.

My youngest DD will be almost 18 months when we are going to WDW, she is about 22 lbs. now, but loves to be held, especially when she is tired. Do you think the Hotslings will still be useful at that point? I checked out their website. Loved them!

my dd will also be 18 months old and about 20lbs. i completely forgot about carriers. she's at the stage where she loves to be carried around. thank goodness i read all of these tips in time to get something before my May trip.

I decided on the Hip Hammock and tried it out around the neighborhood and couldnt be happier--- I think I might even be able to convince DH to wear it as well!!!!!

Well, my new Hotsling arrived in the mail yesterday (FAST SERVICE!) - here's hoping my 14 month old likes it!
