To book or not to book...that is the question

Planning our summer 2012 trip (probably June.) Did a check on the Disney website & came in waaaay over budget. We want to stay moderate with the basic park pass and basic dining (no park hopper, no water park, no deluxe dining...) We've always lucked in to free dining + had a PIN last summer that allowed us to stay moderate (we were planning on value until we got the postcard.) What are the chances free dining will be announced and/or we'll get a PIN for a room discount? The way it prices out now there's no way. We could go value, we could go quick serve but otherwise that's all we could cut out & we're still over budget. The way we looked at it we really weren't saving as much to go quick serve or OOP. It's the room (+airfare) that's killing us. Driving isn't really an option as it would take us two days to get there & two days to get home. That eats up too much Mickey time! Any suggestions???

I would not book b/c I think you have more of a chance of getting a pin code if you do not book and maybe just play around with dates on WDW website and save a few of the offers. I think that is how I got some of my pin codes and that's what I'm trying to do right now.
I agree the rack rate prices seem high when you are used to getting a discount. We want to go in mid March, but may go in June if we don't get a discount for spring break. We can't drive either, it's just too far. I had that FD code of June last year but we didn't go.
There is a SW promo that I think is still going on. You get their credit card and you get 50,000 pts. after using it once that for us will be at least 3 round trip tickets. You may want to look into that.
