TO BOMA OR NOT TO BOMA, THAT IS THE QUESTION????

WE HAVE READ EVERY THREAD,,,WE ARE STILL UNSURE,,,IS BOMA WORTH A TABLE SERVICE CREDIT WHEN WE CAN BE GOING TO THE BIERGARTEN OR THE CONCOURSE STEAKHOUSE? I KNOW IT IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE THING,,,,BUT I REALLY DON'T LIKE "DIFFERENT" UNKNOWN INGREDIENTS,,,,I'M STILL KINDA UNSURE :sad2:

We went to Bomas last Sept. I'm a pretty picky eater - reluctant to try new or "unusual" things. But I really liked Bomas. There was a good variety to choose from. I tried lots of things - some I liked, some I didn't; but there was plenty of thing I did enjoy. And I loved the zebra domes! :goodvibes
We also went to Concourse Steakhouse last Sept. I thought it was very good also. If you haven't been to either yet, I would recommend Bomas.
We're going to WDW again this Sept. We probably won't go to Bomas or Concourse this time, but only because I want to try all new restaurants this year.

I was brave and tried teaspoon sizes of almost everything -- I loved it! And of course went back for my favorites. It was WAY better than Biergarten, where we also went.

For my first trip to WDW, I asked a cousin, who is a cast member...what should I not miss...Boma was one of his suggestions...we went and thought it was very nice....we are not that picky so no problem food wise, but I think Disny does a very good job of offering old favorites along with some new tastes...try it, you might like it!

I think the only reason my DH goes to WDW is to go to Boma! I swear someday we're going to have to get one of the bellman's carts to roll him out of there. As often as we go there, I just found out they serve different kinds of food on different days (i.e., ribs on a certain day). It's great food, we also enjoy walking around the resort and checking out the animals in the savannah.

We are very picky eaters but we found Boma is really alot of normal food with African twists to it. Sometimes it is mostly in name only. I don't like spicy whatsoever and I felt that there was alot of food for me there to try. There is always the normal standard stuff, mac and cheese, roast beef, spaghetti, etc. Actually we found most people crowded around these areas. It's worth a try and the AKL is a beautiful resort. If you like wine, they have really nice selections there. I think it's worth a shot.

Did not like Boma. It wasn't that it was unusual, it just didn't live up to expectations. The food wasn't fresh. We really preferred Biergarten.

I think its out of the way as well. If you are staying at AKL, or are frequent Disney guests with time to check out the lodge, its worth a trip and you might as well eat. But I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for it.

It's one none of us can really help with either. I usually say unless one just doesn't like anything different with any sort of spice (not necessarily hot spices) in it, then try it once and see if you're out in the AK area. But if you're really not sure and you know you'll like the others, then I'd say go to the others.

For the record we liked Boma a lot but thought it wasn't worthy of the kind of hype it gets on these boards sometimes.

Boma (and Jiko) are a must for us on every trip. Then again, we are AKL freaks! :)

My family stayed at the AKL in November and we LOVED Boma. It was our favorite restaurant. The variety and quality of the food was amazing. I recommed it.

I loved Boma both for Breakfast and Dinner. I think the soups are out of this world! :thumbsup2 I tried a spoonful of most everything and then I went back for more normal portions of things I really liked.

DH said the meals were good but not his favorite. He still likes Spoodles the best.

I love Boma, i thinks its worth a visit to see the hotel aswell- the gift shop is also really nice- i bought a lovely print there last time!

We like Boma MUCH better than Biergarten. I could make a meal just out of the soups and desserts and leave very happy. We also got smoothies on the DDP that counted as a drink.

The Biergarten pales in comparison to Boma IMHO. If you are worried about "unknown" ingredients there is always a chef available who will gladly tell you all about the item you are going to try. I once had a chef who after speaking with me, went back inside and came out with a delicious sauce he whipped up just for me to go with my beef!! Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. The best part about a buffet is that you can help yourself to tiny portions of things that are new and if you don't like them you don't have to eat them. There are some surprises - things I for one would never have tried if I had to order a whole portion off of a regulr menu - i.e. watermellon rind salad - believe me.... it is EXCELLENT. And to second what others have said you CAN make a meal just from their soups. They do have "regular" food also like mac and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs and such. I believe there are even chicken nuggets. So you won't have to worry about getting your fill even if you find that you don't like the unknown. FYI, it is our all time favorite restuarant at Disney or ANYWHERE for that matter. About it being out of the way... that is another fun thing about it - you get to experience Animal Kingdom Lodge. There is a fire pit and story telling at a certain time each night (sorry don't remember what time) and you could even plan you dinner around that so you and your family get to enjoy that experience too. The gift shop and lobby there are great!! and of course you could spend some quite time observing the animals before or after dinner. Good luck, hope you decide to try it. :thumbsup2

The Biergarten is good and reliable.
Boma's is better and reliable! :goodvibes
If you appreciate a good pot of coffee in WDW, Boma's is one of the few places to drink good coffee. :thumbsup2

We enjoyed Boma's on our last trip we were glad we went there. I to was unsure of going with a picky eater but we all found food we liked and left quite full. We did enjoy seeing the animals since we were'nt going to Animal Kingdom on this trip. The lobby is a sight to see and the cast members were all very friendly. We also went to the Concourse on that trip, I would definetly return there the shrimp cocktails were so delicious and fresh and the filet mignon was that best we ever had. After eating we took the monorail over to MK. I think it sometimes depends on your schedule. We rented a car and went to Bomas on our first night so it was no trouble getting there and we were'nt going into the parks so we had plenty of time to enjoy the lodge. Both are good choices. Linda

I think the prime rib I had at Boma was the best I have ever tasted. The other dishes were very good too, and I liked the atmosphere. We sat by a window and watched it rain. It was very relaxing. Try to go at a time when it's not as busy.

I would say go and give Boma a try. They have many different items but also some that you will find on most buffets. There soups are fantastic, I could make a whole meal out of them. :)

We went to Boma twice and Biergarten once on our last trip. Biergarten was very good, but we thought Boma was so much better! Give it a try.

:thumbsup2
