Hi everyone...

First, let me just say thank you in advance for volunteering your time. As we all know, the volunteers and spectators are really what make this race so wonderful and so many of us would never make it to the finish line without your support and encouragement.

I know that while I am out there for the half, I probably won't have the opportunity to thank everyone perosnally, even though I do my best to thank everyone so here it is in advance...THANKS!

I would like to make a request though...I've spectated at races and fully understand how exciting it is to recognize your friends out on the course and that is not what I am referring to here.

But...

I have been a witness (too many times) to certain groups ONLY cheering on people they see from their group and literally ignoring the rest of the people on the course...it makes those of us not wearing, let's say...purple...to kind of feel like second class citizens...

I, for one, will not be able to make it to the Pop meet nor will I be wearing any discernable lime green (or purple) clothing but I still like to check in with the boards from time to time to make sure I am "on track" with my training.

Please, please, please (and I know that you will because I'm sure you know what I am talking about) remember to cheer on people who may or may not be wearing your team color. You may still be cheering on team mates without knowing it...There may be others here that post from time to time or just hide out in the rafters reading posts but not necessarily posting...

I hope this wasn't too preachy...and I understand the value of being on a team and raising money for charity. I am just the kind of gal that likes to see everyone supported...not just those in a particular color or with a particular group...

Oh - and I will be there on Sunday cheering on all of you marathoners and Goofy's...I am taking my own advice!!

:cheer2:

Thanks again!
~I

My first race last year and I did have a lime green sticker with my name on it and that helped people cheer me on and it was a big boost for me. I know what you mean about the purple thing.

I did, thank all the Wishers that I saw during the race, and gave hi-fives because I was on these boards a lot for help even though I was not wearing a green shirt they were always nice to me and along the race they were reassuring. The support during the day carried me through.

This year I have my wish shirt and hat and can't wait to see everyone along the race route again.

From post #113 of our Official WISH Volunteers thread... :thumbsup2

"Also, I would like to encourage every WISHer who is volunteering to cheer for everyone on the course. Most of us will have been "on the other side of the water table" and we have all experienced that moment of silence that comes after some other teams stop cheering once their team members have passed by. Quite frankly, I think that's pretty rude and not at all in the spirit of the day.

So let's make sure we cheer on everyone on the course, no matter what they are wearing, lime, orange, purple, fairy wings, or mouse ears. Let's hydrate and motivate them all! That's what we are there for!
:cheer2: "
