Stay cool... stay safe.

... And if you're reading this, glad to have you back on-line!

Thanks for the good thoughts. We are in southwestern CT and are lucky enough to have power! The lights started flickering around 4:10pm and all traffic lights in our town have been inoperable since. Hopefully, NYC will get power back soon.
Good luck to all!.

We live in Southeast CT and had power the whole time! Yay! Although just one town away, it is brutally hot, and the streets are full of traffic.

I heard this all started in Ottawa? Is that true?

They just mentioned on CNN... lightning struck a power plant in Niagara Falls, NY, starting a cascading power failure.

Wow.

It kind of reminds me of the big Black Out 30 some years ago, when we lived in upstate NY. Nine months later....!:p

I was in the middle of typing "congrats" to floridafam for the add-on points, and my computer lost power. Fortunately, it came right back on, but I had to wait for it to go through that 'bad shutdown' cycle.

Hi all. Some of us up here near Albany, NY have power now :D ....some still do not :( . It did cause an awful mess getting home today, lots of chaos and fender benders out there! Thanks for all the good wishes/fingers crossed for those of us in the NE to get power back.

Brandi

 Lost power at 4:10 and it came back on at 8:20. That was the hottest 4 hours of my life!;)

Well I am here in Niagara Falls NY and hear we are getting the blame!! It was scarey when we realized the whole Northeast was out. I was at work and the elevators stopped with people in them, ATM;s in mid transaction, etc. It is HOT too. But the good news power just went back on here, not in all area's yet, but I got on the DIS......and glad the AC is kicking on for the night. The goosebumps of thinking the worst is not a good experience. Proud of the calm and thoughtfulness that is prevailing throughout. Our Power Plant is one of the largest in the country so we all thought at first it was our Plant but it never went down. We are being told locally it happened in Canada. I hope we are all back to normal in AM and I am sure many stories will come out from the biggest blackout in US history on 8/14/03.

We're in Northeast CT and have not lost our power, however we were at the movies in Westport (South, central CT) this afternoon and the projector shut down three times! It came right back on but those of us in the theater just couldn't figure out what was going on. It was only after the movie got out that we learned of the power failures.

BTW, Freaky Friday was great...even with the missing bits!

Just got power back on. MY AC has been broken all summer, so the heat was no big deal - just jumped in the pool. My DD works at a water park and when they lost power, had to evacuate all the rides, but then they let all the people stay in the pools.
My DM is in Queens (NYC) and still doesn't have power.

Diane, that was early November 1965 ... I remember it :).

here we are ......Its 10:30 and the power just came back on 20 minutes ago! The lights started flickering around 4:15 and then out they went:eek:  Well what else to do but fire up the grill and then take an evening swim......only trouble was that all I could think about was getting back on this site and "DISNEY".I guess I really am addicted.:D

Well, I think Diane was hinting at something else to do! :smooth:

Seriously, best wishes to all our friends affected by this. Gather the loved ones, and stay safe. :)

We finally have power:teeth:

It was kind of fun not having power.

I think ours went on in the middle of the night.

I hope everyone's power is back up soon.:D

Yo! Dan, Sorry to hear it was so rough. Best take precautions to avoid any long term debilitating effects. I recommend you apply cold malt beverages regularly through the weekend.

My family is in brooklyn and they still don't have power. It's going to be a hot one today, but they are doing what they can to stay cool. I am most worried about my grandmother (the elderly and heat don't mix) but hopefully they will get the power back on before it gets TOO hot. Right now she is drinking a lot of water and taking a lot of showers to stay cool and hydrated.

Thanks for thinking of us. Power in this part of CT didn't come on until 2:15 a.m. Very hot, very stuffy and I'm glad to have it back! Now, if people listen and don't turn everything back on, maybe they can get this fixed and not risk having it go off again.
