TL or BB on rainy days?

Nana and I are going this week with two grandkids, 6 and 8, and a nephew, 16, and because the weather forecast is less than optimum, we are making rain contingency plans. We know NOT to go to DisneyQuest bec pirate: ause everyone else will, also. Our question is twofold: Will the water parks be open during rainy weather? What are some other alternatives? We are staying at GF, so transportation shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

In 2003, there was some sort of tropical depression hovering over Orlando on our planned Typhoon Lagoon day, but we went anyway. It was raining lightly most of the morning, and we didn't much care because we were there to get wet anyway! Around noon it started with thunder and lightening, at at that point they finally started closing rides.

:smokin: Thanks for the reply, michygoomy. I love both Carl Hiassen AND the Mouse. :furious: PS, do you know who made the remark that WDW was the largest people trap run by a mouse?

Good question--an initial google search reveals no credit given, but it sounded very George-Carlin-y to me, so I search again and found it here:

The water parks are open when it rains - just not when it thunders! Kids are more inclined to do the "we're getting wet anyway" theory - adults think about things like the towels getting soaked. :) Get a locker for the stuff you want to stay dry and go have fun.

We went last Oct. the day that Trop. Storm Tammy was hovering...we waited until 9ish to decide and watch the forecast but went on and it was great, very few lines. Most must have decided it would be rainy. I'd watch the forecast and go if it's not too ominous!

We've spent rainy days in both the water parks. One visit (6/97) is was lightening and all at BB so they made everyone leave the water. Most, in turn, just left the park. We sat it out in our car for about 90 min.....the sun came out and we returned to a mostly empty BB. Great day. Spent one day with torrential downpours at TL. We all just hung out and had a blast. It was so bad that day that the sand was getting washed away from the beach chair areas. The kids were cracking up......

Just wanted to post a pic of our "washout" of a day at TL one year (kids had a blast in the torrential downpour !):

This was on the sandy area where our towels and chairs etc were........things were literally getting washed away.......
