Tiw

It you are a FL resident you can also get the TIW.

TIW is not a DVC perk, it is only available to FL residents and AP holders.

If you will be dining at WDW enough to justify an AP, the TIW will easily pay for itself. We've enjoyed it greatly over the years we've been able to get it.

If I purchase TIW while I have an AP but do not renew, can I still use TIW for the full 13 months?

Bummer. We are not DDP people as we love our appetizers and drinks too much and are not huge dessert people. We also share because the kids don't love the kid's menu options and would rather share an adult entree.

Looks like I have to do some math. How much is the TIW card? Our plan is to go into the park 6 out of 10 days but I was going to buy 8 day Hoppers. How much does an AP go for? Do WDW APs have black-out days like DL APs?

DVC members get $100 off the cost of an AP. I just upgraded a 10day base ticket and it was about $160. It would probably be about $110 for you to upgrade an 8 day hopper.

Oh, the TIW is $75. At least that is what I was told by the manager in guest services the other day.

:thanks: Let's say $200 for the upgrade and card to be safe. That means my family would have to eat $1,000 worth of food to make it cost effective. I'd say that's a slam dunk for 5 people on a 10 day trip. Does the TIW card supply a discount on CS too or just TS? I assume not snacks.

Most of the discounts are at TS meals but there are a few places where you get the 20% discount for CS. I seem to remember reading that the food courts at the values offer it.

We are considering this for next summer as well. We have done the DDP for several of our past trips and realize it just doesn't work any more for us.

Since we will be planning our summer trips 51 weeks apart, we will buy the TIW and AP's and get two trips out of one pass/card.

We figured our first trip will cover the cost of the card and then everything on the 2nd trip will be the savings. We typically do 2 or 3 TS meals each trip (for 6 nights) so we will be running the numbers to see how it will actually play out.

Two trips out of one card is awesome! :woohoo: We wouldn't get two uses out of it so I need to decide where we'd want to eat and look at prices. I do have a rough idea. I am dying to try Rose and Crown and Chefs. We'd like to do Boma again and Cal Grill as well as a character meal for Chloe's birthday.
I might DH even choose a place.

This is out plan. Trip in December (8 nights, 2 off property) and in October of 2011 (7+ nights). Buying the AP's and TiW is the plan as we too believe that getting 12-15 park days utilizing the mousesavers/UT and DVC AP discounting will make this valuable savings.

The only drawback is we're doing the CP dinner package and TiW can't be combined with that.

You only need to have a valid AP to purchase the TiW card. You do not have to show your AP to get the dining discount when using the TiW card. The expiration of the TiW card is not related to the expiration of the AP.

TIW is amazing, especially if you enjoy a bottle of wine or a couple of drinks at dinner. We've bought APs for our next trip and will be doing the "2 trips in 50/51 weeks" thing, and I can't wait to start using that TIW card again.

I think the ability to buy TIW without an AP would make a great new DVC perk.

Good to know. We didn't upgrade to AP's til the last day of our trip or else this would have been great for our 2 trips/51 weeks apart. But we are planning to go about 11 months after our trip next year so I'd still get full value. Our next trip is adults only so it'll be nice to use for drinks and the trip after that will be for 12 people.

They don't ask for ID?

We love our drinks and wine with dinner. We also love appetizers and usually get a few to share. Dessert seems to be last on our list as does soda so that's why the DDP doesn't work for us.

We were in WDW 2nd week of August....sometimes I was asked for my AP (and they checked that the name was the same) and sometimes I wasn't asked for my AP. But it was my AP they wanted, not my room key or driver's license. The majority of the time, I was asked for the AP.

I've never been asked to show the AP in the 2 years we've had a TiW card, but I believe they reserve the right to ask you to show it.

Is there a link to TIW information?

I think the last time I checked a few of the restaurants we were going to were not on the list.

Also, where can you purchase it?
We are not purchasing our APs until we are there.

Thanks
:flower3:

Same here. I think I've had the card for 4 or 5 years now, however long it has been available to the annual passholders. I have never once been asked for my AP when using the TIW. You show the AP when you purchase the TIW. After that, I've only ever given my Driver's license as my ID since that has my picture on it.

We haven't had to show and AP- you shouldn't have to as you can get it without an AP as a Florida resident so not veryone who has it would have an AP. I have been asked for a picture id- to prove it is mine at times but that has been it.
