TIW versus Deluxe Dinning Plan

DW and I have a split stay that includes a one day reservation in the middle.

I have a TIW card.

Looking for advise.

I am thinking about buying the deluxe dinning plan for the one day; then use the three table service meals over the two eligible days (along with getting the mug which I read possibly could use the balance of my stay).

Have you done this before ?

Yes the mug would be usable for the rest of the stay (they are automatically good for 14 days).

You could use the meals for checkin and checkout days.

Would you save any money doing this, though?

It's a math exercise. Can you optimize it and do better than TIW? (Assuming you already have that and its cost effective to also have dxdp)

Yeah, it comes down to how you're using the credits. Fact is, assuming you're going to use the credits even remotely effectively, 2017 DxDP is fairly cheap for what you get in return. Without even factoring in the mug value, you're looking at about $30/credit break even value compared to pre-tax menu prices. (Assumes you're getting $4 or $5 pre-tax value per snack credit)

So, it's actually really easy to beat even TiW savings if you're trying to, and being able to spread it out over two days makes it even easier, as you wouldn't even have to think about 3 TS meals in one day or require yourself to use a signature just to minimize the sheer amount of food (as signatures tend to be slightly less optimal use in terms of value per credit).

Just a simple breakdown of $8 appetizer, $20 entree, $8 dessert, and $4 beverage works out to $40 value in a single meal, which is a 25% savings using a DxDP credit. And you shouldn't have to order the most expensive items on the menu to meet or beat those numbers at most TS places.

(And you should still be able to use the TiW card for discounts on alcoholic beverages, right?)

In my experience over many years using the card and its current and former forms, Depends on the server. Ive been asked and not asked at several of the same restaurants over the years.

Yes, if the card is otherwise taken at the restaurant.

I agree. In my experience Yes. And the credit card used to pay must be in the name of the TIW card holder.
