Tivo and digital cable?

Just wondering if anyone here has both digital cable and a TIVO system?

Our digital cable is too stupid to be able to program "go to this channel at this time and that channel at that time". So if I wanted to record one show at 3pm on Wednesday and a different one at 7pm on a different channel, I can't do it without being home to change the channels. That's so frustrating to me. Especially since basic cable can be recorded that way, just with a VCR.

I'm wondering if a TIVO system could interact and tell the cable box to go to the proper channel at the right time.

Anyone have a setup like this?

If it weren't for the extra cost of having cable modem without having cable TV, and for the fact that the satellite kept going out in bad weather at the apartment, I'd go back to satellite in a hurry.

No idea Tammi... bumping to see if someone else does :)

I do... and it works fine... I could never program my vcr.. Tivo has been the best thing we have done.. While we were in WDW... it recorded Survivor for us... I love my Tivo and my digital cable..

Does your digital cable work like mine does, in that you can't program the cable box to go from channel A to channel B without user input at the moment of change?

OK.. do not get too technical on me, I am really bad.. remember I could not even program my VCR to records programs.. that is why we got Tivo.. .. we can change channels...by inputing the numbers... or just going up and down using the arrows..

LOL! Okay.

Hmm... let's see if I can rephrase....

Before the Tivo box, did you have the ability to record multiple shows on different channels without having to touch the cable box?

Well.. that is the problem, we did not really record a lot before Tivo.... and if we did record we had to be watching the program because we were so inept at figuring it out..

But basically.. if we want to record something and we are going to bed.. we leave the cable box on...shut the tv off, but cable box is on.......and it just changes the channel and records the program.. does that help??? Sorry I am not good at this..

Hmmmmm. I think that helps... :)

Sounds like the TIVO *might* do what I'm wanting. Since you didn't record much before Tivo, it's hard to really say for sure.

Anyone else with experience? :teeth:

I'm trying to make sure the TIVO would change our cable box channel without us having to do anything.

(yeah, yeah, so I could just talk to the cable people, but they sure weren't friendly when I talked to them before ;) )

I haven't looked, but did you try the FAQ section on Tivo's website? I read it all before, cause that's what I wanted for Christmas..... but Santa got me ReplayTV instead.....which I know NOTHING about (YET!)

Okay, duh. I never even thought of looking at the TIVO website.

Thanks for the suggestion. :D

Rajah,
I'm too researching for Tivo / digital Cable / HDTV combo possibility (though I don't have 2 out of 3 yet). I believe, from reading TivoCommunity.com, that this can be done. You just cannot record both channel at the same time unless you have direct TV Tivo box. Tivo gets the TV schedule from a phone call, I believe it'll know automatically which channel is which, and can switch on its own.

Here at home, Time Warner is Advertiseing a built in Tivo box into the digital cable box, maybe you should call your cable company and see if they have anything like this????:D

Happy Holidays!!!!!
