Take them to Nebraska.

So as your driving a 1000+ miles to get there how do you explain to your kid you not bringing them back home? What a sad statement on society. I just can not understand how this happens, while I do not have any children myself I am very close to my niece and nephews and cannot imagine giving up on them and throwing them away.

This is very perplexing to hear on the news almost daily now.

I never watch the news...whats the story here...someone dropped there kid off in Nebraska and hauled tail...like dropping off a cat or something?

Nebraska has a safe haven law designed to protect infants, drop them off at a hospital or fire station no questions asked, unfortunatley the law was written vaque and now 21 kids in the age range of 1 - 17 years of age have been dumped from different states such as Michigan and Georgia.

Oh, Yeah...Ive seen some of those stories....I was picturing a mom driving day and night, stopping in the middle of some barren country road and shoving their kid out of the car and flooring it. Not that this is all THAT much better of a situation....I dont get how you can take a child that knows nothing but the love youve given...or NOT given them, and just abandone them to nothingness. What a horrible feeling that must be for a kid. I saw recently where some drug dealers kidnapped the kid of their customers because a deal went bad.....imagining how the kid felt being ripped away from their parents and taken with total strangers without even being old enough to understand what the hell was going on....it seems like it would have been more humane to beat the parents within inches of their lives in front of the kid....I bet the kid would never get involved with drug dealers.

My kids want me to drop them on I-4 next to Disney and haul tail. Seriously, I wouldn't know what to do without my boys. Kids are not a chore, but a gift...

Why do mine feel like a chore.:rotfl: Just kidding, i wouldnt trade my kids for anything, even a free trip to the Fort. It would be hard to turn down though.;) :)

Times like this I tell people I live in Iowa.

I don't know what I find more sickening. The fact that this state passed a law like this, or that people are driving from all over the country to take advantage of it.

I get grumpy with my kids, too, and there are times that they are just driving me crazy. But, why this?? So far none of the kids have asked me about this law, or its results. Not sure what I'll say when they do.

All kids will drive you a bit crazy sometimes. And yes all us parents have had those moments where we would love to drop them off somewhere. But most of us are sane and know that is not the answer to their problems. Like I always tell my kids, I will always love you but I don't always have to like you.

As a father sometimes we do things that give us bad rap. But hey if you don't want to raise kids then think about that the next time you wanna make one. Unless you have money who in their right mind would have 9 kids. I would think that way before you got to nine you would realize how they are made. There is free birth control out there. Too bad not any instant sanity pills on the market.

For God's sake if you don't want them don't make them. And if you do then deal with it. They are your responsibility.

We have a similar law in Florida due to all the newborn babies being left to die in dumpsters. Ours however, is a "safe place for newborns" law & not kids of any age. At least these babies will have somewhat of a chance if they are delivered to a firestation or police station.

People who would "dump" their kids or desert them should be hung by their heels and slowly skinned alive! I feel the same way about pets.

The Nebraska law wasn't intended for teenagers, as has happened, but for infants of parents that felt they couldn't take care of their child. The state is already crafting a change in this law at this time to correct their short-sightedness. It's amazing that the legislature can have 36,000 pages on a bill and screw up something like this. Must be all that pork.

This is insane! 17 year olds? There are plenty of 17 yo serving now in the military! :confused3

The Duggars may be out of their minds and may have gone over their quota for children, but at least the kids seem to be loved and well cared for. I would have been grateful to have been able to have even just one child. It infuriates me every time I hear about these girls/women dumping babies in trash cans. There are so many people who can't have children who would love to raise those babies. I'm sure the laws were made to stop those exact situations. Nebraska needs to amend their law to an exact age limit for the child being left. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone can leave all their children, no matter what age, at a hospital in Nebraska because they don't feel like being a parent anymore. I could be wrong, but I would be willing to bet that most states have programs to help families who are having problems, whether financial, behavioral, or whatever the issue. As Auntie says, I'm just saying...;)

And, like Deb, don't even get me started on the animals...:sad2:

This law had a good basis, but they didn't do it right. The lack of age limits was intentional, and it was pointed out to the Unicam several times, but they apparently wanted it that way. Best argument for term limits that was ever invented.

Now the Governor is waffling about a special session to change the law before the regular session in January. He keeps saying that it can wait, even as the numbers climb steadily.

Between laws like this, and bailing out the Omaha school district at the expense of the adjoining counties, I may not be able to afford this state much longer. I moved here from near Chicago, and it was cheaper to live out there.
