I swear he gets more finicky every day!
Now he's starting to turn down his usual favorite of mac-n-cheese. He'll still ask for it, but he'll only pick at it...unless it's from KFC that, he'll lick the bowl clean for that stuff.
So, now he eats peanut butter, cheese pizza (although once in awhile he'll do pepperoni), Go-gurts (only pink ones) or strawberry Crush Cups (from Dannon), and other such awful foods. His favorite snack right now is Cheezit and marshmallows. He makes little mini-sandwhiches out of them. He adores tootsie rolls and purple Juicy Drop Pops (which he gets only rarely as a prize treat). He'll drink milk and Juicy Juice fruit punch (only if it's in the box).
We tried the GF/CF diet with him a couple years back (DS is 8 1/2 yrs. btw) and it didn't have any notable results. After a time he stopped drinking anything buy Juicy Juice and water because any way we presented soy or almond milk to him he wouldn't touch. Heck, he lost a little weight (not too big a deal as he's on the big side anyways...). After 3 months we gave up on it.
I've tried just about anything to get my son to eat fruits or veggies. I've snuck them into his pizza sauce. It didn't work, he said it smelled yucky and wouldn't eat it. I've read a dozen books and talked to nutrionists. They all tell me he needs to eat better, but no one, no book has yet to make a difference.
Now when he doesn't like a food he says "I awergic to _fill in the blank_"
*sigh*
Just venting here folks. He's actually pretty healthy, he's heavy but not so much that his Dr. is alarmed. He has no GI issues. He's got energy and is happy most of the time.
I've been told his apraxia (he's autistic, btw) may be a contributing factor to his diet preferences. I've been told he may have a stronger sense of smell and that fruits and veggies may just smell repellent to him. I've been told he may change when he hits puberty... ugh...
*sigh*
Thanks for letting me vent.
