You know as well as anybody the answer to that. Under the given set of circumstances of 1955 it was excuseable. Under the given set of circumstances in 2004 it wouldn't be acceptable.

i just got back from WDW and had a wonderful time, however i had a bad taste in my mouth the whole time. i believe there was much more magic and attention to detail 10-15 years ago. i've spent many years now reading, researching, and learning about disney theme parks, and the more i learn, the more fed up i am with eisner and his mediocre management team. i am sick and tired of these half-baked attractions disney is coming up with. for instance:

test track. it was a good ride, but world of motion was much better...WOM would have made Walt proud...it was the type of attraction entertainment he lived for (like POTC). test track would probably make walt sick to his stomach. its a semi-thrill ride, which has absolutely nothing to do with the FUTURE WORLD theme at epcot. i almost found it boring (excpet for the last 20 seconds of the ride). i was truly upset they got ride of World of Motion for this.

horizons. its gone, didnt ride mission space so i cant compare. but horizions, again, was the epitome of the entertainment walt disney wanted. why would they get rid of it?!?!?

journey into imagination 2. the first one was great, what the heck did they do to it. i could not wait for the new ride to end, it was atricious!

the entire animal kingdom park. eisner hired all these new "imagineers" who appear to have little creative ability--at least compared to the frank wells era and original walt disney imagineer cast. kali river rapids is a glorified water ride found in most boring amusement parks in the US (remember walt disney founded disneyland because he hated the attractions found in the "typical US amusement park"). dinosour is a rip off of indiana jones at disneyland (one of the last great pieces of work by imagineering), and the rest of the park is disorganized, boring, and resembles a zoo found in most US cities.

i'll just leave it there...obviously i am frustrated with disney management at the moment..even though i admittingly had a great time at WDW last week. MK still has the magic i remembered as a kid, however the other parks need a lot of work. epcot is going downhill fast, and disney better find some actually creative imagineers to fix it. stop putting these thrill rides in epcot to boost attendance, walt is probably rolling over in his grave just on that notion alone!

eisner has done a lot of great things for disney, but he has also done a lot of terrible things -- i.e. a relationship with mirimax (know for its pornograhic films), the creation of Califorina Adventure (again a theme park completely contrary to what Walt Disney dreamed of for his parks), etc. its time for him to go, and its time for many of these new hot shot imagineers to go. we need real talent at disney to bring the magic that we all remember as kids back to disney!!!

Really? I thought they were known for their Oscar-winning films like English Patient, Shakespeare in Love and Chicago.

... it seems to me that people post negatively when they spend their hard earned money on a much anticipated and pretty expensive WDW vacation and they encounter problems at their resorts, with the transportation or in the parks. Most of the time they concede their vacation was still fun but *some* of the Magic was missing. Personally there's not too much that can make me unhappy if I'm fortunate enough to actually get to WDW!

Reedy, maybe this statement simplifies why I'm not in Car 3. You open your post with the above statement, then fill a page with why ME ruined Disney.

Do I agree withsome of your post - absolutely (Kali Rapids should have been so much more) but AK is not the wasteland you make it out to be. Look at The Tree. Can anything on property compare with the imagination & craftmanship of the Tree. AK has it's failings, but it also has triumphs. It's still a work in progress.

People are quick to point out things they don't like about Disney and are quick to put the full blame on ME and that's fine as long as you're willing to give him full credit for the bright spots.

I guess the name of the original post has certainly shown it's colors here. People will complain about anything. All the complaining in the world will not change the way it is, so you may as well have the best time you can.

I am challenging anyone that posts to this thread.

Do not post anything negative.

Dig down deep and come up with some magical moments you have had at DW or DL.

Sprinkle some pixie dust on your keyboard and try to be positive.

Please try to remember, DL or DW is for KIDS, Kids of all ages!!

believe me, i am a true disney fan, and have many fond, positive memories of my visits to both WDW and DL over the years. i am just a little dissapointed with recent additions to the parks. the old stuff is great, and some of the new stuff is awesome (buzz lightyear, TOT, the tree at AK, the safari, and more). i just wanted to make the point that INHO, eisner is getting old and tired at the healm of disney, and it is showing up throughout the company. why should we suffer from lackadaisical planning of the parks and attractions? all i am saying is that i hope the parks do not continue to get these half-baked attractions which walt disney himself would roll over in his grave about.

btw, concerning mirimax, there were some good movies released by them through disney, but many were terrible movies not suited for children at all, nor did the embody anything disney stood for. i understand the mirimax-diseny relationship is over as of 2005 though, which is good. for me information read the book "Disney-Greed, Corruption, Children at Risk."

If I truly believed that, I don't think I would even be a member here today. Certainly most threads are nothing more than us talking amongst ourselves, though even that can have a positive impact. By better understanding just what other loyal Disney observers (those who chose to participate in an online Disney discussion group) really think of the current direction of the Disney company, we help to clarify our own opinions, and perhaps appreciate the true scope of the problem (typically "Eisner"), beyond our own little criticisms (Mickey butter, no early-entry, etc.).

In fact, early-entry is an example where public outcry (on and off-line) did precede a reversal of that cutback. Entire websites were devoted to the abomination that was the Imagination Institute, and the current version indeed addressed many of the serious complaints.

Whle I am certainly not suggesting that an online discussion necessairily has any direct affect upon the decision-makers at Disney, we do know that Disney CM's participate (or "lurk") here. The question, of course, is just how far up the corporate ladder that participation extends. But even if we are sometimes talking mostly to park CM's, these are the very people who are directly involved in the issues we sometimes encounter on our trips. Indeed, these people are the reason Disney is the magical place it is today. They may have little influence on the direction of the company, but they might be able to do something about reports of peeling paint and the like.

Expressing your complaints directly do Disney will probably have even more of an influence, however great or small that influence is. Indeed, how else are they supposed to know what we really think? Polls and guestionaires of guests too often just give you the result you were looking for.
