Tiramisu question

My 8 year old loves tiramisu and brought home a cook book from the school library with a recipe for tiramisu.

So we are trying to make it this weekend. Any hints?

We got mascarpone from Trader Joe's but they didn't have lady fingers. What is a good substitute for them if we can't find them.

I am thinking sponge cake. My favorite tiramisu is the one in the frozen food section of Costco. I love tiramisu and I swear its the exact same one they serve at Olive Garden. I only buy it at Christmas because if it were in the fridge, I would eat the entire thing.

Yeah sponge cake works for "fake" tiramisu. That's what my DD calls it when people use sponge cake, she even texted me this from college the other day, that she had some fake tiramisu. lol

Try Whole Foods - they probably have them.

Lol - from NJ - we have a selection of mascarpone cheese, and lady fingers, plus a few choices of pre-made tiramasu, at our shoprite. It's funny to think of having to go to Trader Joes for it!

Make sure you ask someone where the lady fingers are. a lot of stores have them they are just hidden and you really have to know where to look.

I was thinking of the same thing! I bought a huge bag that had 4 smaller bags of ladyfingers this summer and I still have one little bag left in my cabinet.

I was going to say go to an Italian deli/food shop, I know ours has them there, too, but then I realized not everyone has them, either.
