Can someone with experience tell me what goes on with tips? I got role of concierge and I heard that many people tip you with this role, especially if you are working concierge level. But then people told me CPs can't take tips.. anyone with recent concierge experience clear this up???

There aren't any CP positions that are classified as tipped positions. Positions that are tipped are below the regular minimum wage.

This doesn't mean that a CP wouldn't be tipped, though. I would occasionally get tips and I was in ODF.

During training, I'm sure they will go over what to do if you are offered a tip. You'll probably also learn the risks of accepting a tip when you aren't supposed to so you can make the call on whether or not you are going to do that.

When I went through my CP (Fall 2010), we were told that some guests may wish to tip us for our service. Company policy for Cast Members in roles that are categorized as non-tipped are supposed to decline tips. Granted there are roles that are non-tipped in the resorts, but Cast can accept tips (Luggage, Housekeeping, Concierge, etc.) as it is an industry accepted norm.

I still work for the Company and have thoroughly drank the Disney "kool-aid" and have no problem admitting that. We don't provide excellent service to try and get tipped. Our job is to provide excellent service. To me, accepting a tip in a role that normally doesn't receive tips degrades the magic we are trying to share with our guests.

If you do accept a tip and are unsure on if you can keep it, talk to your manager. If you are in a non-tipped role and are caught accepting tips, you could be disciplined up to and including termination.

Concierge cast members (whether CP or not) at Disney Resorts are not allowed to accept tips. If a guest offers you a tip, you are expected to politely decline. If you have declined 3 times and the guest continues to insist, you may accept it (so as to not be rude to our guests), but you are expected to report the tip and turn it in to your manager. Generally, the "Tip Fund" is used to fund some sort of cast appreciation. At one resort I worked at, they would buy everyone pizza occasionally with the money. Another resort would give out movie tickets to the cast that had received tips.

Sometimes guests (especially on the Club Level) would provide non-cash gifts. If the value is a reasonable amount, you are permitted to accept. One guest left a large bag of candy to be shared amongst the concierge staff. Another guest arranged with the resort's bakery to deliver a cake to the breakroom, in recognition of the excellent service that the guest had received. I know of concierge cast that have received flowers from guests for a birthday or anniversary (A lot of club level guests are longtime repeat visitors, and establish a relationship with the cast members that assist them on multiple trips)

However, as eadavis said above, we don't give excellent service with the hope of receiving tips or gifts. We do it because we are Disney, and we should be aiming to give that level of service to all of our guests.
