so i've been at all times of the year, most recently in early December, which was heaven! But it's been about 10 years since I've been in the summer months. We are heading out in August (18-23) to take advantage of the free dining. Just hubby and I, 30 somethings, from Dallas, so used to the heat and humidity.

So what tips do you have to stay cool and survive the hot months at the world?

Since hubby is an early riser anyways, we will definitely be hitting the parks at opening, then taking a midday 2 hour break around 1 or 2 for a swim/nap back at CBR. hit the park again in the late afternoon evening. hopefully that will help. what other tips do you have- things to bring to cool off etc.? :cool1: :sunny:

A cheapo way to cool off- put a washcloth in ice overnight- In the AM put washcloth and a little ice in a ziploc. Save for emergency- just a little swipe of that washcloth was fantastic for cooling down.
You hit the big one right on the head- mid-day breaks! You will get tired from the heat. Taking a break is the best way to enjoy your trip. Have fun and I am sure you will get some better ideas than I have....

Here's something I tried last September and it really helped: I bought chamois clothes at a sports store (they're used by swimmers to dry off after races, etc.). They came in individual cases, but I was able to fit two into one case to save space. We used them to dry off after water rides and to cool off on hot days. We just got them wet with a little water and used them on our faces, etc. My dd just put it right over her head a few times.

Another thing we always do is carry insulated water bottle bags. We freeze about 1/2 a bottle of water each night and fill them up in the morning. I have to have water to keep me going on hot days and I love it when it's cold.

We're usually in our rooms (or at the pool) from about noon or 1 to 3 or so. If we are in the parks during that time, we usually plan an indoor sit-down attraction - something like Hall of Presidents, Country Bears, American Adventure or any of the movies in Epcot, etc.

My wife and I -- a couple of 40-somethings from NYC -- follow that same strategy, and it works.

We hit the parks early, take advantage of EMH in the mornings, see as much as we can in the AM, have an early lunch (11:00 or 11:30) and then head back to the room to cool off, nap, swim. We also try to spend as much time as we can in air-conditioned spaces: stores, theaters, attractions. Using Fast Pass will help you do that, too.

Then we shower and head out for dinner around 5, and try to squeeze in some other attractions after that. We make it an early evening -- sometimes we even leave before the fireworks -- and get plenty of shut eye before starting over again the next morning.

Oh, something else: the "Mister Fans" people talk about are pretty helpful, too.

Keep yourself hydrated, pace yourself, and follow the tips above, and you'll have a great time. :yay:

We don't have a "plan" but we don't over do it.

We drink plenty of fluids I mean LOTS and at least 1 sports drink per day.

We eat light...nothing feels worse than eating something heavy then going out in the heat and walking. We keep the splurge meals for dinner time and eat lots of fruit, salads, lean protein.

Dress cool, and in light colors. Less clothes does not mean you will feel cooler. Light t shirts and loose fitting shorts made of cotton and light sneakers. Also in the heat take care of your feet. I personally found sneakers to be the best like a light pair of Nike that has mesh inserts. They are light and give full support and your feet breathe. When you have the wrong shoes, you legs will tire a lot faster. When you are tired you feel hotter.

We also do not carry anything - no water bottles or backpacks. I carry a coach across the body bag which is just big enough for my camera and necessities. It is small and hands free so I don't even know I have it on.

Remember alcohol and caffeine are dehydrating, so for every cup or drink double up on the water.

Keep cool by going into AC whenever possible. There's plenty!
