TIPS: Star Wars Weekends 2011

Stay close to where ever they look like they are doing the special event, there should be a ton of Stormtroopers from the 501st there today for the special event, they requested around 500!

I have heard from a couple friends this morning that Uncle George is in fact there, so im lookin forward to some pics this afternoon.

A little surprised it is not busier there from the posts here and startours2live......wonder if maybe the publicity of large crowds are keeping many of the normal on site guests away. The rope drop crowd was extremely small compared to many.....granted it was earlier than usual and a weekday.

OMG!!! I have been up since 5am wondering what u guys were up to. Hope everyone is having fun. So excited for you guys. I cant wait to get there. Please post pics if you can!!!!!popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

:thumbsup2Good Morning America just did a piece on the ST2 ride live from WDW. They said Lucas will be there today. Have fun everyone that's there.

I am so excited to hear all the live reports from today! Keep 'em coming!

To take a break from our regularly scheduled program, I am hoping that some SWW vets can tell me if my plan for Saturday, June 4th is realistic, since we have never before attended SWWs.

We will have visited DHS the Tuesday prior to ride rides, so we will not be riding any rides on Saturday. Our focus will only be on SWW events.

Here are my priorities:

  • Picture with Darth Maul
  • Pctures with the fab "four" decked out as SW characters (Minnie Leia, Jedi Mickey, Darth Goofy, Stormtrooper Donald)
  • Attend a few informational sessions
  • Watch Hyperspace Hoopla

We have dinner reservations at 50s PT at 4:15 to take a break, otherwise our whole day is open. We plan on arriving at DHS at least a half hour prior to park opening.

I am not a big parade person, so we are planning on skipping the SWW parade. Is this a mistake?

We don't need any autographs from the celebs, so I am hoping this will make our top four activities doable!

Any other advice?

I heard from a collector that if you go onto the Art of Disney website, there are directions on how to pre-order merchandise. I don't know how, but if someone knows or finds out, please post.

I bought a Star Wars poster today at Wal-Mart ($5) and it has most of all the characters on it, including C3PO in the middle of it, which is why I bought it, because I want Anthony Daniels autograph and I want a poster with his character on it, and it is probably cheaper than buying on at Disney. (Thanks for advice.)

We are not parade people either, but when we went two years ago I was impressed by the SWW parade. I think you might regret skipping it. It was very cool and definitely on our "must do" list for next weekend when we are there. :thumbsup2

My husband got autographs last year, I think this year we just want to catch all the shows and ride Star Tours.

So any info on Star wars vinylmations availability? We've been to WDW twice this year so far and have had no luck.

Thank you for this! I was hoping to hear an opinion about the SW parade from a non-parade person. We'll make an effort to see it, then!

Thanks for the heads up on this! I set the DVR and was able to see the piece after dropping DS off at school. He'll be so excited when he sees it and will be psyched to go in a couple weeks!! :)

I'm seeing various tidbits being posted on other websites and threads:

New possible characters- Admiral Ackbar and Yoda this year. Any others?

Just saw a thread that Anthony Daniels will be signing 5x7 B&W's only.

Hmmmm......

I am thinking about going to the Star Wars weekend on June 4th or 5th. We are definitely NEWBIES! I would like to surprise my son. A few questions.
Do I need to purchase advance tickets for the day?
Which day would you go, Saturday or Sunday?
What are the must see/do for a 5 year old?
What is the must eat dinner reservation I need to make?

Thanks so much.

You don't need any other tickets than your park tickets, it isn't any extra . (nice huh :)
Since your going when school will be out, it won't really matter if you go Saturday or Sunday, both days will probably be equally crowded. Get there early, especially since there is a pre-show at the gates before the park opens, which is very funny.
Your 5-year-old will probably enjoy the "Jedi Training Academy" and I think you have to sign-up early at the events information area (by Baclot Tour) and your child might also get picked to walk in the parade. (If they want to get picked, it helps to dress up and make sure they act reallly REALLY excited in front of the Jedi.)
And if you get reservations anywhere, I'd suggest 50's Prime Time Cafe for a sit down restaurant; the decor and food is amazing.

That won't be hard at all. The only trick may be the fab 4. They come out in sets, you'll get a feel for the order and who is coming next and how fast the line is moving. You may have to let people in front of you or go back in line to get all four, that sort of thing, but this won't be hard. The information sessions are at set times, so you just plan around that. You should watch the parade, it won't take long. You'll be able to see more characters than you list, imho. The weather that day could be your random factor.

Regular park tickets will get you in.

My kids were in the parade and they absolutely loved it. Find a CM and find out how they can get in; ours were chosen after we got autographs with Ray Park- my DH walked with them and I got to view the parade from prime seating. They wore jedi robes and carried light sabers and had everyone cheering for them. Check by the celebrity autographs stands and talk with a CM.

Both days are as a pp said, equally crowded so just choose which day is best for you.

As for restaurants, to keep with the theming; sci fi restaurant of course! cool, dark :3dglasses and yummy thick milkshakes!

I couldn't take the suspense any longer. I googled & found a link of today's opening ceremonies. So AWEsome. Enjoy:)

ok, i just have to throw it in that...

Anthony Daniels was wearing long black pants and long black shirt during the opening ceremony...isn't it like 90 degrees down there. I hoped he changed after.

Starlight is obviously related to Oopla (hyperspace hoopla) *cough* ;)

Does anyone know how many fastpasses they are giving out per day for celebrity signings?
