Okay.....

I am planning on taking quite a few pins with me on my next trip to WDW (this September). Of those, most will be mine to trade, but I will also have some for my wife, my son, and my daughter to trade. Since they are young, the plan is for me to be the pin "haver".

When going out to a park for the day, what are some good tips for how to
a) have pins with me that are for trading and
b) keep separated daughter's pins from son's pins from my pins....

Any ideas?

That's one reason I ask the question.

I don't think anyone (besides possibly me) is too into wearing lanyards. Are there any small bag/book ideas that have worked for others?

We just do lanyards, DD12 has 2, one for keepers, one for traders. DD9 has a bag she carries, in her bag she has extra traders and someplace to put keepers. She usually puts them on her lanyard until we take a break, then she changes the keepers for traders.

Sorry, that wasn't really very helpful. She carries her traders in a small ziploc, each trader is in a small ziploc inside a larger ziploc, she carries the ziploc around in a small sling style backpack, she also carries her bottle of water, change for pressed coins, wallet, hat/sunglasses and an autograph book in this same bag. :)

We bought one of those bags for DD, she's a big HM fan and her bday is in 1 week so we got her that bag. :) The "pages" inside are pretty small but you could fit between 5-10 pins on each one, depending on the size of the pins of course. :)

I don't know, I think there are 5 pages and you can use the front & back of them. Like I said, they are pretty small but I think she will love it for her traders.

I bought one of those custom bags that some dude in CA makes and sells on Ebay, but it gets a little heavy when it's got lots of pins in it. I was thinking, though . . . they are having that Haunted Mansion O'Pin House thing at Disneyland, and they have a booster set with a small GWP Haunted Mansion pin trading book. I can't tell exactly how large it is, but it may be good for a day's worth of trading for a couple people. I collect Haunted Mansion and HM Holiday, so I'm going to get one myself for day usage. It looks like it is small enough to be easily manageable on rides and what not. Also, I don't like wearing the lanyards because I am a pin addict but am also a fashion conscious guy -- snug Diesel boot cut jeans and lanyards are an odd match. Trust me. It doesn't work. Anyway, if you want to check it out, here's the link:

You can order it directly from Disney (info in the link) and pay less than these jokers on Ebay are charging to resell it.

Let us know what you come up with!

I checked out the page and did anyone else notice what the ad said??? Read the copy carefully...

Here's a quote from the linked ad:

I guess I don't get it...what's funny?
I'm leaving Wed for DL, I can pick one up for you if you want to Paypal me the money...if they are still available of course. :)

LOL OMG, I didn't even notice that and I read it a lot! LOL

I'm going to attempt to order this today! Hopefully I still can! Thank you So much for posting the link. I don't normally buy many pins, but this set is great!

I noticed the spelling error right away too! My first thought was...I hope they don't spell it wrong on the pin too...

For the pins that we keep at home, they are in a three ring binder. We have punched foam sheets to place in the binders to hold pins and also to divide pages of pins.

For in the parks, you can easily make a small pin trading book out of sheets of felt. This would use the same philosophy, place an empty page between those with pins on them. The felt can be sewn together with yarn as a means of binding and can have different colors of felt to indicate who the pins belong to. If you make it yourself, you can determine size and number of pages.

For those pins that we get in trades that we do not want to trade away again, we use the locking pin backs so they do not get lost or unintentionally traded.

Happy pin trading!

I fill my lanyard with pins to trade each day and any pins I trade I put them back on the lanyard but back to front, so the actual pin is not on display. This works well for me and if I manage to trade all away that day then just flip the lanyard over and wear the pins.

I have a similar system...I start the day with usually 4 pins on either side of the lanyard, and as I trade one, I'll put it on the right side, so before too long, the right side is for "keepers", the left side for traders. Because honestly, I sometimes forget which one I liked until I already traded it away!

But the original question, my kids are small, 6,5, and 3, and 6 and 5 have their own lanyards, and will wear them for most of the day, but when they don't, I just carry their lanyards in the camelback, and whip them out when they want to trade. If it is a multi-day trip, at the end of the day, we unload the keepers in the hotel room and restock for the next day.

I've used craft foam sheets to carry my pins. It folds up and fits in my bag.
At home I have the 3 ring binders to store them.

I have one of the smaller pin bags that you wear around your waist. This is where I keep my traders. When back in the hotel in the evening I have a cork "hot pad" and I put the pins I want to keep on it. Makes a nice display in the room.

We are a 3 adult family and have been pin trading since 2000. My goofy brother (who is 42) said "I am not doing that". Then guess who is the biggest trader and wears 2 lanyards? Yep....6 foot 4 inch 200 pound brother of mine! Goofy at his best!

I like pin trading cause of the people you get to meet. I try to have nice/interesting pins in the bag cause usually kids love the ones on my lanyard (usually very tiny ones or my fav's....chip and dale with FOOD). Had to threaten some guy who harassed my mom over a really nice cinderella coach pin...he would not leave the 68 year old lady alone! Rat fink found out she has 2 adult children who WILL protect their mommy!

Anyways....thewill on ebay was a good source about 3 years ago. Will be checking back to see if he is still there and get some HM/CL to put back into the park or on children's lanyards. Weird....I don't have kids and generally not too fond of some of them...but have met some really good pin trader kids. enough rambling....
