Okay it has been since 2001 since I have flown and that was before 9-11. Any tips on packing my liquids as obviously they cannot go on my carry on & I do not want leakage and spilled mess in my luggage especially the way they handle the luggage. :worried:

Make sure the caps are on very tight and put them in plastic baggies. So, this way, if they leak, it will be contained in the baggie.

I actually double bag. I did have some leakage the last trip. Luckily I had double bagged things and there wasn't any problems. If you are taking larger sized bottles, squeeze as much air as possible out of them before sealing them tightly.

Here is other info direct from the Transportation Safety Admin

I second the baggie (or double) technique for things in checked luggage.

Also, remember that you can bring liquids in your carryon subject to limits - 3 oz., or smaller container(s) in a a 1 quart ziplock baggie. Liquid medications can be any size and do not have to be in the baggie.

:thanks: everyone!

I will try & condense most to 3 oz and take on my carry on. I am dreading the whole process with the airport!

Also make sure that baggie is completely clear. There can be no branding on the baggie (like ziploc does sometimes). I got chastised at the airport for using a baggy that said ziploc on it.

Are you kidding me???? What is this world coming to??? What is so wrong with "Ziploc?" Glad u told me that.

so, we have to go out and buy a specific zip lock bag; not the one with writing on one side and nothing on the other? :rotfl:

This is getting crazy..........I guess I just thought I needed a vacation huh? :teeth:

Thanks for the info !!

Apparently the baggie has to be 'clear' and having text on it makes it not clear. It's crazy TSA Troll logic if you ask me. I ended up not carrying on my liquids on the return flight as I didn't know if the security in Los Angeles would be even more persnickety than Sea-tac security.

Ahhh, our tax dollars at work! How I love the TSA! (Oops, did that comment get me the "optional" body cavity search next time I fly!?)

I guess you didn't know that only totally clear bags (i.e. no writing on them) have a magical property that makes all chemicals in that bag safe. :confused3

Our last trip this past Sept, I bought a couple of Lock N Lock containters (loaf of bread size) at Walmart and packed all my liguids and anything else that would fit in them, packed them in a smaller wheeled carryon and checked it. Arrived with no spillage/leaks at all, they are advertised to not break or open up even when dropped.....worked out so great that I bought a couple smaller sizes this time that I plan to pack between clothing in my regular suitcase and eliminate the extra checked "liguids" bag!! :)

If you do consolidate your shampoos, etc. into a 3 oz. or less container, make sure it is a marked container. You cannot put it in one of those clear plastic bottles that do not have a weight stamped on them. Also, half used bottles of 6 oz. are unacceptable, even though they technically are 3 oz. or less. The items have to be marked 3 oz or less (all heavily dependent on the TSA agent).

Ack! This is why I am packing ALL of our liquid stuff in our checked baggage!

Note that there is no actual TSA rule requiring this. But TSA agents are allowed to make up any rule they want, and many have made up a rule requiring the bottle to be the contents original container, maked as 3oz or less.

This is the first I have heard of the "no writing" rule.
I thought that was settled in the "Kip Hawley is an idiot" episode.
Oh well, at least Glad and Hefty are getting press for their thoughtful give away this Thanksgiving season.

This is actually making me wonder if I got a particularly irritable TSA agent when I got corrected for having a baggie with branding on it. Either way, it's clear baggies for me from here on out.

Oh and as for small bottles to put your liquids in, I went to Aveda and bought a kit there for $13. It includes a ton of little bottles/containers that you can transfer your large sized liquids into for carry on purposes.

Here is the exact site you want to see...TSA liquids, aerosols, gels
It specifies ziplock size, and says specifically "clear", and that you're limited to one bag, but doesn't mention writing on the bag. I'd assume if it obscures the bottles in any way, they'd have objections.

Duh....when you turn the bag over (the side opposite the 'writing') that side is CLEAR.

I have 3 different brands of zip bags here and all have either writing (Hefty, Ziploc) or a white space to put writing.

TURN THE BAG OVER!!! :dance3:
