tips for travels with small dog inside cabin

well, we normally board our pup. :dogdance: But, just found out that for $50 each way; you can take them in a Sherpa bag under your seat with WestJet. He is a small non barking Bichon - I think he will be fine for the 5 hour trip, but would love any helpful tips.

I just flew back on SW and there were 2 dogs on board...the lady across from me had bulkhead seats so the dog could stretch out at her feet and it slept the whole flight. (neither dog was in a carrier)
 
He will be in a carrier, and can't even be unzipped per WestJet which is fine by me. Also, my family is taking all 3 seats.
 
A muzzle in case it decides to go on a barking spree
 

he doesn't bark - for what it's worth I would never travel with my pet if I thought it would be an inconvenience to anyone.
