Tips for taking pictures with Canon SD1100 IS

I am going to Disney in less than 2 weeks and I was hoping that some of the experts here could help give me some tips on taking better pictures. I have a Canon PowerShot SD100 and I have read the manual but I just find it really confusing. I have listed below some types of pictures that I will be taking and if anyone has any tips on settings and such for the type of pictures I would be really grateful.

Daytime Parades
Nightime Parades
Fireworks
Darker rides that move
Not as dark rides that move
General nightime pictures
Shows (such as the castle show)

Any other tips that would be great to. I have looked on line some for some tips too but I thought it might be helpful to ask people who have a better idea of what I am looking to take pictures of.

There are no magic point and shoot settings for better pictures.

It might help if you explain what you didn't understand about your camera.

Do you understand what the ISO settings are and how to change them?

Do you understand aperture and its effect on your pictures? How to change (or if you can on your camera, I quit trying to find out much about it after page 80 of your manual) the settings?

Do you have shutter control too?


You should be able to get really good day time pictures and decent fireworks pictures (if you have a small tripod and can adjust you shutter speed).

Any of your other shots you desire are the more difficult and it would help if you explained how much you do know about the items above. It's not your camera that takes good pictures: it will be you.
