Tips for Shipping Souvenirs When Flying...

My fiancé and I are making our inaugural annual October pilgrimage to Disneyworld this year and we will probably no doubt buy some stuff while we are there. This year we are flying from Charlotte to Orlando. Last year when we went we drove/rode with family.

While the Shop Disney App is great, there are those times you find the perfect fragile thing that you just want to buy on property and I don't want that fragile nifty trinket broken!

What tips/tricks/hacks/suggestions do y'all have for getting more fragile things through the airport and back home in one piece?

If you buy something fragile, they wrap the heck out of it, which is half the battle. Bring a backpack as a carry on and put the most fragile things in there (no snow globes though). If I have to put it in my suitcase, it gets wrapped up in my dirty laundry for some extra protection.

We ALWAYS ship anything fragile home--and we drive!! Its normally packaged extremely well and if for some reason it does get broken ( heaven forbid) Disney replaces without any questions asked!

I have Disney ship many of our purchases because if anything arrives damaged, Disney will replace it with no charge. There is a shipping fee based on the total value of the items being shipped, but the sales tax is waived and along with the AP discount together they are often about equal to the shipping fee.

We usually take a plastic shoebox in our (checked) suitcase. On the way down, we fill it with snacks that we don't want crushed. On the way home, we use it to help protect any breakable items and to corral all our small souvenirs.

I agree that having Disney ship it is best for larger or super fragile items, like artwork or snow globes.

If we think we are going to get a lot of souvenirs we will typically bring an empty suitcase with us (we fly Southwest so we don't get charged for it). We have also shipped larger items home directly from the gift shop when we purchased them. This past trip we bought a Banshee for ourselves and then got three additional ones for our young nephews (Christmas shopping done in July!) - not sure what we were thinking because we didn't have them shipped home. When we picked them up at the resort we quickly realized they weren't going to all fit in our extra suitcase and we didn't want to take them out of the box since they are gifts. We had a rental car and found a really great shipping store right near WDW. They boxed everything up for us so we just basically handed them the items and paid them.

Any time you buy anything at a disney resort shop you have the option to ship it home. I do it all the time. It's reasonable $ wise. I just fill out the paperwork (its the same paperwork slip that you fill out to have it shipped to a resort instead you will have it sent it your home) and within 7 to day business days it will arrive at your home. Anytime i have received anything fragile its came to my home in perfect condition its always wrapped for protection and I know if anything was to come in broken disney would replace it. theres a number on the slip to call for situation like that.

You can always have a decent size carry on and use clothing to wrap your items. Anything breakable (usually mugs) that we have bought we will put in our carry on bags. If it is extremely fragile then i would just have Disney pack it and ship it home. Chances are what you find and buy will be safe for you to bring home with you. I just wouldn't trust putting something in your checked bags.
