My family is going to DLR for the week starting 2/14. It looks like rain almost every day.
:fish:

We're traveling with another couple and we both have 8 year old (and very active) boys. Any tips on what we should do, given the bad weather?

Also, we're staying at the GC. Do they have PS/Wii/XBox for rainy days or should we bring one of our own? (And would we be able to connect it to the TV?

Thanks for any help!

I went on a rainy day once... (knowing that it was gonna be rainy) and waterproof shoes are the best. And I'm not talking about those clunky rainboots... they actually have waterproof shoes

And if it's raining hard, I heard that ponchos don't help at all so bring an umbrella(s) ..(those tiny compact ones)

I dunno if GCH has any of those sorry, never stayed there.. hope someone has an answer!

;)

Me and my husband are here right now and it rained the first couple days we've been here and I would get some water proof shoes and bring lots of extra socks. (me personally, I have a thing with having very clean and dry feet. almost a little OCD and I find myself changing my socks several times a day) I would also go and buy some rain/wind proof type jackets. We had to buy ours here at big 5 and that really helped to keep us dry. Most importantly, realize your in DISNEYLAND and have lots of fun:goodvibes and don't let the rain hamper that feeling of the magicpixiedust: you feel while your here.

Walk (don't run, it might be slippery!) directly to the park of your choice and have a blast. The ponchos work well for me. I wear Magnum boots, and they do a good job of keeping my feet dry unless you submerge them in water for 5 mintues or so.
As long as there is no lightning everything will be open except the Mad Tea Party and Alice in Wonderland (maybe Tarzan's Treehouse...it was closed on 2/7 when it rained nearly all day...don't know if that's why it was closed). There was nobody there on a Saturday.

my suggestion on keeping warm and dry. I "ditto" what everyone else says and also, covering your socked feet in plastic baggies before you put your shoes on will keep your feet dry.
Your shoes may be soaked but your feet wont be.
I know it sounds totally grannie but it works.
Also to keep warm I usually buy a box of those thermal care heat wraps that you buy for a sore back. but they also keep you warm and snuggly. I put one on my back and then put on my t-shirt and coat and I am warm and toasty all day long.
If it is really cold Ill put on each leg under my boots.
Have a great time!!

Don't let the rain stop you from enjoying the parks!! Most things stay open & with the rain, the lines usually are much shorter.....so you actually could ride a ton during these times.
Since you're staying at the GCH, you can slip back to the Hotel to change socks & clothes,if they get damp & go right back. I couldn't even imagine my kids playing gaming systems while at Disneyland......and I have a couple kids that love to play them.
Disney is magical anytime, even in the rain!!
Enjoy your trip!!

Great ideas! I never thought to put bags on my feet if I'm going to be out in the rain. I'll have to remember that. I could have used these suggestions a few years ago when we went to the Rose Parade and it was POURING! We had ponchos but we really needed rain pants, bags on our feet and heat wraps to enjoy it more.

Thanks for the great ideas! I actually forgot about the water proof issue... which is something that's important since all of us just have tennis shoes.

As for the gaming systems... I'm thinking that may be helpful on those evenings when they cancel fireworks and we go in early. And... okay... full disclosure... I love the gaming systems, too!
;-)

XOXO to the DIS'ers!

Ride Splash Mountain and Grizzley River Run 20 times in a row!!!;)

Disneyland is GREAT in the rain! Lines are short and more often than not they do not cancel the fireworks (unless the wind is too strong)
And staying at the GCH make sure to take advantage of the fabulous fireplace with rocking chairs to warm up
Enjoy your trip!

Hmm... I will be there at the same time. I think you should probably stay in the hotel, safe and dry and play video games. Shorter lines for me:thumbsup2

Just kidding!

rain sometimes makes for short lines, you should take advantage of that

It rained most of the time we were there. My biggest mistakes were bringing crocs sandals and dressing like I usually do since I live here in so cal. I agree with the other poster that said bring extra socks. I was the only one I saw in the park in sandals and a tank top and I had to make a trip to target to buy more socks since my others got wet. The pochos were very helpful and the best thing we did was stay onsite. When it was really pouring we could go in for a nap and take a break then come back out since it usually doesn't pour too long. Oh also if it's not raining first thing in the morning ride tea cups and alice since those two would close when it rains. We still had an amazing time even with mostly rainy days, hope you have a fun trip too!

If I can add a couple extra things...

The GCH has a wonderful laundry facility on the 2nd floor by the Storytellers elevators. Bring some extra quarters, but it you don't, there is a bill changer at White Water Snacks (for the arcade next dooor).

You can get to the arcade outdoors, but under complete cover, so it's an option. Bringing your own XBox is cheaper. Each room does have DVD players.

I also would add to bring a poncho to keep from having wet butts on some rides that board outdoors, like Small World and Storybook Canal Boats.

Uggs and generic Uggs will completely soak in the rain. The generic ones can go in the dryer at the hotel. (Ask me how I know......;) )

And if you can find one, get a shamwow. No joke, I used one this last weekend and used it on all the seats that were wet. I had waterproof hiking boots on, the rest of the family used the plastic bag trick that was mentioned previously. We all had rainjackets and umbrellas, no problems staying dry. For wet shoes, crumple up newspaper and shove it inside the shoes. It doesn't take long for them to dry.

I'm :rotfl: at the Shamwow deal, DBF just said today he's going to the store to get some Shamwows for this weekend! :rotfl:

I got some funny looks until people saw that it actually worked then asked where they could get one. You have a smart man there, hold on to him:)

hmmmm, I have some of those shamwows around here somewhere, and we will be there this wekeend. . . nothing like a wet bootie to make you feel sticky in the rain:rotfl:

I'm planning on keeping him. :) Our local Target didn't have any last night so he's going to check around and see what he can find. He passes a few on his way to work every day. :)

Exactly! The SW boats were horrible too...they were drenched, so were the seats on the tram.

Innoventions and the Buzz Lightyear ride are two things we did while it was raining one day during our last trip.
