Does anyone have any tips for controlling morning sickness with pregnancy? I am pregnant with my second child and I have not been able to keep any food down for 48 hours now. I have tried Emetrol (sp) and gingerale and crackers but its not working. I am having trouble concentrating at work and school with my stomach in knots the whole time. Any advise would be great!

My doc said to take Malox(sp). Koolaid and crackers helped somewhat. I got so tired of water, it started making me sick. Koolaid has flavor, no carbonation, and some sugar. Cherry has been my favorite since. :)

I found pepermints and chewing gum helped. I suffered from all day morning sickness with both pregnancies. Lived on Gatorade, crackers, and jello for about 6 weeks with my first pregnancy. Of course, I was pregnant with twin girls so all those female hormones didn't help!

With my second pregnancy, also a girl, I found the gum really helped. I also drank caffeine free Coke and ate small amount of potato chips. This seemed to help as well.

Good luck!

Oh, I can relate, JeniC! I had it pretty bad from month 2.5 to month 3.5, and all day, too.

Here's the bad news: nothing really helped, and I tried everything from prescribed drugs, to crackers, to old wives tale stuff I am embarrassed to admit. All I can recommend is don't fight it, it only makes it worse. I got used to, whenever I had the feeling, just going into the bathroom and getting it over with. If you don't fight it, it becomes really quick, easy and painless! Boom, and it's over, and you feel great for a while. I can remember eating plain spaghetti with butter and salt, getting a third of the way into it, getting the feeling, doing a quick barf, and finishing my dinner!

Here's the GOOD news: it almost always goes away in a month or two. Your body is just getting used to the new hormones. Those of us with bodies that were obviously very attached to the OLD hormones just have to suffer a bit more! And when it goes away (which it will!) you will be RAVENOUS, and you can eat, and eat, and eat without feeling bad about it!

Two words: Sea Bands.

They are meant for motion sickness, but they also work wonders on morning sickness. I didn't have it so bad, but whenever I was in the car it was awful so I kept a pair in the car. They are just little arm bands that apply pressure to your wrist and somehow stop you from being sick. I picked mine up at a Maternity store, but you can also find them at any pharmacy.

Good Luck!

I had slight nausea with my second pregnancy - never actually got sick just felt gross for a couple of months. I found that I could stomach breakfast foods - cereal, bagels, toast, eggs, no problem. Anything else was just gross - the thought of eating a burger or pasta (anything I normally love) was just disgusting. So, I ate alot of cereal.

Good luck.

Ugh..........I feel for you. You poor, poor thing. I too had all day sickness. And here's the part that your going to hate.....I had it for 8 months!!! :earseek: Everything made me sick. The sight and smell of meat made me ill. The smell of candles made me ill. Walking through the grocery store was torture for me. I tried the sea bands but they didn't do anything for me. Perhaps they'll work for you though. I lived on water, crackers, chewable ginger(found at the health food store), strawberries and sometimes buttered noodles. For me the awful sickness didn't go away. I worked tech support for a computer company when I was pregnant and I vividly remember putting my customers on hold, going to the bathroom and getting sick, then returning to my desk and finishing my call. It was horrible. Even had a trash can next to me in the delivery room. Perhaps that's why dd is an only child. :) I wish you the best of luck getting through this. Here's a ton of pixie dust headed your way!!! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I was sick for 9 months all day right thru labor with ALL three of mine.

I ate all day, lots of ginger ale and I ate what appealed to me even if it wasnt good for me. Just eat anything . I liked comfort food that my mom made for me when I was a child.

I had morning sickness up until the day i had my dd( I even got sick in the dilivery room). I found that crakers and milk helped. I also had to eat as soon as I woke up.

I have a friend who swore by pop tarts. She said after a few, she could function.

Sounds gross...but whatever works.....

I was horribly sick with both my pregnancies. :( I couldn't keep any food down at all. I even threw up water. :( Sometimes I could keep down peanutbutter on toast, but that was it.

The doctor told me to try half a Unisom, it didn't work... then he prescribed Reglan, but it didn't work. Then I moved onto Phenegren, no luck. I also wore Sea Bands... no help. :(

Finally it stopped around 18-20 weeks. It was pure torture. :(

Here's some PD and get better soon vibes! :)

Pepto and peanut butter. I put peanut butter on everything, toast, crackers, and chocolate bars. I just could not get enough. And that was the only thing that I could keep down,-- Trust me it gets better. Hope you feel better soon.:

Oh I know just how you feel! I tried it all too, but never found the one magic food that made me feel better. These things minimized but did not eliminate that yucky feeling:
* sea-bands - only a little bit of relief. I wore them night and day. Only took them off to shower.
* eat a little something before you even sit up in bed in the morning. Tough when you have to use the bathroom, but do it! I did cheerios, crackers or ginger snaps. I'd rest for another 15-20 minutes and then start my day.
* antacids - Would make me feel a bit better, but for some reason they were the first thing that would be regurgitated.
* jolly ranchers - I could never get that icky taste out of my mouth. This seemed to help.
* fresh lemon - squeeze a whole fresh lemon and sniff when you get a wave of nausea.

The only thing that made me feel a bit better was a McDonald's shake. The flavor didn't matter, but it had to be from McDonald's. I tried BK once and I threw it up immediately. Just keep trying a little of this and a little of that and hopefully you'll stumble upon your magic feel better food. You have my sympathies and I'm praying for your second trimester to come fast and bring you relief!!

Try upping the protein in your diet. My doctor suggested this to me during my pregnancy and it worked!! He said that often morning sickness is caused by your blood sugars fluctuating and eating sweets can make it worse. Then people often not eat which drops the blood sugar causing terrible highs and lows. Instead of crackers in the morning, I would have a handful of nuts. If I strayed from eating this way, I would start to feel miserable again. Give it a try. :)

I'm so sorry you are going through the all day sickness, I remember how miserable it can be. I don't have any suggestions that haven't already been posted, but I think that some of the ideas here are great! I hope something works for you. Good Luck!{{hugs}}
