tips for keeping my bathroom clean

I have gotten so much better at keeping my house clean over the years..it pretty much stays in a state of being half an hour from company ready. My master bathroom, however is another story...it opens up into my walk in closte and is always a mess...I hate cleaning it....any suggestions on how a bathroom cleaning hater can keep their bathroom looking better???

Is it just "messy" - as in things out on the counters and such? If so, clean it thoroughly once (don't forget to toss out stuff you're no longer using) and then every time you're in there train yourself to put things away immediately after you use them.. (Only takes a second - if you're faithful about it..)

Old habits are hard to break, but you really can retrain yourself so things don't pile up..

Keep a dustbuster vacuum in there, use it to vacuum up hair, etc. from the floor and fixtures. Keep a roll of papertowels in there to wipe down the counters after you get ready. Keep a hamper in there to collect dirty clothes. Use the daily shower spray stuff to keep the shower clean.

I hate cleaning bathrooms too and I live in a one bathroom apartment, so I have to keep the "master" bathroom super clean for guests. I've found that using Method cleaning products encourages me to get down to work because they smell so nice. Icky cleaning products was always one of the biggest deterrents for me.

As others have said, keep paper towels and whatever else you need to clean in the bathroom. Daily shower spray is great. It helps keep the shower clean longer and make it smell fresh.

I keep a pack of those Clorox wipes in my bathroom. At least once a day, when I am in the bathroom, I wipe the sink and the countertop and the faucet with one of those wipes. When I finish taking my shower, I use my (now soapy and wet washcloth) to wipe the shower walls. Every night before bed, I grab the toilet bowl brush (which I keep in a container with some water and cleaner in it) and swish the toilet brush around in the toilet. And I use a windex wipe to wipe down the mirror daily (my kids make a mess spitting toothpaste on the mirror constatnly). And if I see that there is hair and gross stuff gathering along the edges of the floor, I take my damp (and dirty) towel and wipe it up after I dry myself off after my shower.

Total time: 2 minutes tops. And it goes a LONG way toward keeping the bathroom clean and presentable until I really clean it on the weekend.

I second (or third) the suggestion to keep paper towels in the bathroom, so much easier than to go get them. I keep a bottle of window/surface cleaner in each bathroom too, so I can give it a quick wipedown whenever needed.

A couple years ago I bought a bunch of plastic baskets (dollar store with a variety of sizes) to help organize the bathrooms. I put everything I use on a daily basis in one and pull it out to get ready and then stick it back in the cupboard when I am done, helps keep the counters uncluttered. As a back-up bonus it makes it easy to pack for trips... if I am driving somewhere I can just put the whole basket right into the luggage, plus it makes it easy for wherever we are staying. Flying I still need to arrange things better, but they are all in one place to make it fast.

DD actually uses 2 baskets, one for daily use and one for the rest of stuff that she insists she needs and only uses once in awhile.

Other baskets hold first aid supplies, cleaning stuff, etc... makes it so much easier to find stuff and keep it all in one place.

Also, maybe do one big toss party before loading up the baskets, you would be surprised at the outdated and unused junk I threw out to make room.

Here is a trick I read online and am amazed at how great it works-

Dip Cotton Balls into bleach- really soak them > Then place one in each corner of the shower(or tub- or whereever you get the mold grossness that happens in a humid bathroom)
Not only does it get rid of the gunk- it keeps it clean for weeks too!! Simple easy no scrub.

I too use the clorox wipes. They work great on the counter and sink. I also try, several times a week to run the toilet brush around the toilet even if I'm not using cleaner. I also just put one of the tablets in the tank that suppose to help keep in clean. Don't talk to me about the tub. It is the one thing I REALLY hate to do. I also run my roomba in there at least once a week.

Thanks for this thread and all the tips. My biggest problem is I leave before my hubby and kids, so when I get home, it's a disgusting mess! I'm going to get the clorox wipes and try to use those when I get home each day. Between hubby shaving, kids spitting on the mirror, peeing on the back of the toilet (seriously???), I think spending the extra money on those wipes could help my sanity!

In your case I would NOT be cleaning the bathroom and the toilet seat peer WOULD be. There is no excuse for that at all. When our boys were "messy" in the bathroom I made THEM clean it up-even at age 4 or 5. They can wipe things down with a Clorox wipe just as easily as you can.

I have an extra shower rod (tension type) in my tub surround. Anything that is wet or damp gets hung up there. It also comes in handy for drip drying my hand washables.

I use car wax an wax the sides of shower an tub a couple of tmes a year which really helps repel the hard water stains an soap scum. Only works is the natural finish an shine hasn't already been scrubbed off with abrasive cleaners tho an at least the 1st time gotta clean all the lime an soap scum off 1st. DO NOT WAX THE FLOOR OF TUB OR SHOWER THO you do not want anyone falling.

I keep a bottle of half white vinegar an half water in both bathrooms grab a rag an spray rag an then wipe down bathrooms as needed sometimes daily sometimes I can skip a day. The white vinegar an water is a disinfectant can be used on any surgace in bathroom from mirror to the floor including a quick toliet scrubbing.

I dust my bathroom just as often as the rest of the house, seems that closing the shower curtain when done an allowing it to drip dry keeps the nasty mold from growing on it.

Keep the counters around sink neat by getting an organizer or baskets to use in vanity or shelf.

When all 3 of my DD's lived at home an each wanted their own brand of shampoo an conditioner an razors an all the stuff that comes with females in the house I got them each a shower organizer that hung on the inside of shower curtain those things was life savers! I was surprised how well they held up too.
