Tips for keeping COOL?

We used "cooling neckwear". I purchased them at our local Walmart in the sporting goods section, near the hunting items. It is a narrow scarf that has a gel-type product in that holds the "cool". You put them in cold, cold water and then place them around your neck. Works wonders. We have even used them at my son's baseball games (95º no shade). We carry a cooler jug with ice water in, dip the necktie in, and it really keeps the cool.

We have one of those backpacks with the waterbag built in and the straw that goes up the shoulderstrap. We fill the waterbag full of ice anf water, as the ice melts we have ice cold water all day.

Also when it gets really hotout we go inside for one of the shows

BTW... Lorraine is talking about the Camelbak backpack. You can get them at sporting goods stores or outdoors type places. I have the 2 liter version. I think anything more would get too heavy. Fill it with ice then with water. If you sip it, it will last for awhile due to the ice melting. The mild insulation keeps from freezing your spine but does keep you cool. I highly recommend these.

Now for my idea for little feet... I am bringing a stroller with me, I plan to get some ice (prefer crushed) in a gallon ziplock, put it behind the liner of the stroller or inside a towel. When she (in my case) climbs in to make me do all the work, she will be leaning against the ice and cool her down slowly.

I purchased a pack of 6 cloth diapers, while walking in the parks, stop in the rest room, soak and slightly wring (sp) out excess water, wear it around my neck. Cools me down for awhile and then re-wet the diaper as needed during the day. If I get over heated, I'll wet it and wring it out over my head.

Drink lots of water. No soda, no tea, etc. Just plain water. All CS will give you (free) a cup of ice water.

We are going in July. We will have bandanas for our necks. Just get them wet and place around the neck. Similar concept of the Neck Coolers, but smaller.

Wear a hat. I wear a cotton baseball type hat. I will get my hat wet and then put on my head in the heat of the day. It helps a little.

Go into A/C buildings often. Watch shows, got into shops. Go back to your room. Do not let yourself get overheated. If you feel like you are too hot stop and cool down.

Drink lots of water. A well hydrated body is a happy body. Ice water is free for the asking. Just ask.

I like to wear a casual, loose dress into the parks. My favorite is a Mickey golf shirt type dress. I wear bicycle shorts under it. It is less binding and more comfortable than shorts.

I always take those spray bottles with the fan...it works wonders for me. They have small ones at Wal Mart for $4 and some change. Last time I went I kept seein everyone with one and ended up buyin one there for like $12 and were way bigger...but with little room in suitcase the small ones are perfect.

I read somewhere on the boards last year about something called a Kewl Necktie - I bought them online for our July trip. You soak them in ice water for 15 minutes and then put them on. DH and I were amazed at how well they worked. A few evenings we went without them and really notice the heat and humidity. The site I used is www.craftywench.com - she has really cute designs including one with Mickey! :mickeyjum

Drink lots and lots of water

I don't carry the towels or anything to wet down I go into the ladies room grab a good size paper towel fold it so it fits in the palm of my hand and wet it down. If I keep my hand closed around it usually lasts at least till I'm ready to go to bathroom again. Then I either rewet or grab a new one. If lost it's no big deal I can get another one easy enough.

Go to the outdoor shows that doesn't have A/C early in the day, save the A/C stuff for mid and late day.

Loose comfy clothing, hair up off the neck, walk on shady side of street or walk when possible even if it means taking a few extra steps. Pace yourself don't let yourself get over heated.

Take a break go back to the room say between 12 and 1 rest in the cool room maybe take a swim and go back to the parks 5 or 6 IF you not stayin onsite least seek A/C for a good part of the afternoon. The monorail is relaxing and no one says you have to get off when it stops you can ride how ever long you wish mid day when it's not crowded.

Don't load yourself down with backpack and fanny packs etc to much only makes you hotter in the end. I travel very light if it doesn't fit in my pocket it usually doesn't go in the parks with me. No bag check this way either so serves more than 1 purpose.

When we travel during the summer months we change clothes when we go back to the parks for the evening. Usually a total change of clothing esp socks and shoes.

These things are great. I purchased mine from QVC and got six of them for around $20.

If the neckties are wet when you put them on, don't they make wet marks on your shirts? We can't have that!! :rotfl:

When hitting the parks on unbearably hot days I always take a cheap washcloth and a ziploc bag. The washcloth from the hotel will work. When you use the restroom wet the washcloth in really cool water and use it on your face, neck, and arms.

Feels great on a scorcher of a day.

Wring it out after you are done and stash it in the ziplock bag until you need another cool down session.

Hopes this helps and have a great trip.

We wrung out the ends to minimize the drips, but don't worry in the Florida heat wet marks don't last very long!

Yep these things really work .When we play paintball in the heat of the summer we wear them around the neck and as a headband .They also offer us a bounce but thats :offtopic: .

I also like wearing bucket type hats and soak them down and just let them dry.

i always made fun of my mum: she'd carry a face cloth (from the hotel, or personal from home) in a ziploc bag slightly filled with water- when she'd get hot, she'd pat herself and my DSi (DISNEY SISTER) down with the rag- when they got to a water fountain, or someplace cool, (bathroom, even) she'd wet the cloth again and reseal it in the bag so it wouldn't bust or get on any personal items in her fannt pack/purse/backpack, u get the idea- it works great! even tho we made fun.. LOL

We have the bandana-gel-type ones, used around neck, or forehead.

For DH, and DS's I found baseball caps that you soak in cold water. There is a special material that holds onto water, and they REALLY work. We've used these in Florida, and also in the Caribbean. Especially great because DS #2 is HOT even in 70 degrees!

Oh, I forgot, we also have the fan/water spray bottles. We always make friends while waiting in theme park lines, and the kids get a kick out of people "asking them to spray them", LOL.

Oh, and of course, we drink LOTS of WATER all day! :thumbsup2
