Tips for ID tags for 3 year old

Last time we laminated a tag with name, cell #s and hotel info on it, and attached it to a lanyard with a safety release clasp. It was a bit last minute. I'm wondering what others have done, and where did you buy your supplies. I am thinking about getting her a pin trading lanyard at the hotel when we check in and writing all the infor on that plastic card that hangs on it. I thought of this afterwards, so I have not checked them out. That is a plastic card, right ??

I was pretty low-tech on our first visit, but I took a small piece of an index card and wrote our vital stats, then covered it with clear tape and put it in each child's shoe (closed-style shoes because it was November). I didn't want them wearing anything with their name showing to the public, but I did want to know that they didn't have to remember every detail.

Even kids who are "too old" to need reminding that they're staying at the Contemporary, etc, could become incapacitated (maybe pass out from the heat or something) and having some form of ID could help people locate parents more quickly.

I'm planning on doing "dog tags". My DS will most likely wear sandals the whole time we're there, so a lot of the shoe ID's won't work.

You can do the dog tags by going to PetSmart, etc and using the make it yourself dog tag machine. I'll get one w/ our names & cell #'s and have DS wear it on a chain around his neck.

We did they dog tags some years ago and simply safety pinned them to the clothes everyday. It worked great and makes a nice little keepsake for after the trip.

I read an article in Family Fun about making beaded necklaces that spell out the child's name and parents cell phone number. It can be used while you are at home whenever you go out with the kids as well as vacation.

Innovation Luggage has bag tags in the shapes of sports balls.

We picked baseballs for our sons; there are two balls that back up to each other on the tag so the information inside is not broadcast. On one side we put our son's names and our names, on the other we put our cellphone numbers. We hooked the tag to my older son's belt loop, on the side so it didn't bother him to sit down or on the rides. We coached him on what to do if he got lost, and when he lost sight of me for a minute, I caught up to him and he was holding on to the tag, like he was ready to show it to a CM. Then for a couple hours he held on to the tag like it was providing some security. He had just turned four, it was precious and I was proud.

In a pinch you could always get some masking tape from the hotel desk and write names and phone numbers on the tape and put it inside the children's shirts.

I saw that article too in Family Fun. I thought that was a really good idea.

Don't forget to carry 2 photos of your children with you. 1 for you to keep and one god for bid you have to give it to security. I'm sure it's nearly impossible for someone to find a 3 year old, brown haired girl/boy with brown eyes in disney..

I read of a good alternate to carrying a photo of your child. Use a digital or "polaroid-type" camera each morning to photograph your child in his/her clothes for the day - beats having to remember what was worn that morning. I was also thinking if you have a polaroid or could print from digital onsite, you might take a picture of you and/or DH so your child could carry that - might help comfort him/her if separation does happen plus gives a more positive ID of you when you come to "claim" your child. (Since my DD is African American, I've worried about people not believing she's my child because we look nothing alike - I'm you basic pale Northern European mix. I would hope, though, that they'd notice her reaction when she sees me and any doubt would evaporate).

I'll definitely be looking around for ideas such as these before DD, almost 3, and I make our trip.

when my daughter was little we used a blank hopsital ID bracelets as her ID badge ... wrote name and cell # and hotel with permanant marker ... she wore it all week ... no problem with swimming or bathing ... i think it would have lasted forever

I got my 2 yr old a medical type id bracelet that he wears 24/7, even swimming. Engraved on the front there is a train and his name. The reverse has his full name, town, state, dob, home # and my cell # (which I always carry with me). He loves wearing it, and I love the fact that even at home if he were to wander off in a store, he has some id on him. I got it through www.childsid.com If any info changes, they will replace it for 1/2 price, and when he grows out of it I can send it in and they will add links for free. They have all kinds of styles (dog tags, necklaces, bracelets, shoe tags, etc) and have lots of images that they can engrave on them making them fun to wear.

I did 2 things. One was also from www.childsid.com was the medical/hospital type bracelet that had the medical alert symbol on one side(DD has asthma) and on the other I wrote asthma and our cell numbers. I still am unsure whether to put names on these things. It comes with a very secure snap closure so I put that on her sneaker and snap it closed. We left it there until just recently when I forgot to remove it for the washing machine. (oops)
Then also I took a mickey tag like what comes on disney clothes with the price tag and cut out the same shape on plan paper on which I typed asthma, phone numbers and what hotel we were staying at that trip and matched up the tag and paper then laminated it. Walmart sells luggage tag laminates that already have a hole and loop. This I attached to her disney lanyard. She loved having a special necklace with Mickeys picture. She could put pins on it if she wanted and she knew that if we were separated to show it to a CM with a white tag (theonly color they dod not sell for guests) She now tells me that only real mickey workers have white tags (Universal CMs also only have white tags so this works there too).
