I'm am thinking about going to WDW with my mom who is in her late 70's in May, 2016 (5/2-7 probably and hopefully staying on site). We did DL with an ECV and actually looking forward to going at a slower pace than an ABD would. I plan to take midday breaks and have her in an ECV. What other things should I think about in planning a trip to help her make the best of Disney world at her age? Tickets would be for only four days due to cost difference and to make it less draining with a day or two of chilling.

Try your best to stay o site. Rope drop is your best friend. Yes,build in midday breaks.

Be mindful that she may "overdo" in an effort to please you and/or not feel "left out." Don't let her get too tired.

If she enjoys gardening, take a "Behind the Seeds" tour.

On the "off" days, tour resorts, Boardwalk area, etc.

I went 3x as a traveling companion to a senior lady, mid 80's with some mobility and memory issues. She especially enjoyed BatB (loved it!), streetmosphere players, any live skit that included children participating and just parking and people watching. Much of MK was "lost" on my senior, YMWV.

Make sure she stays hydrated! I took an elder friend who is quite active and the Florida heat got to her. By the end of the second day she almost passed out in the resort lobby and was really dizzy so she ended up in an ambulance to be checked out because of her age.
Definitely take mid-day breaks and I mean not sitting somewhere in the park. I wish I would have brought her back to the AC in the room. We took a break in the park while waiting for the parade and I think the heat was just too much.
Just be smart and don't over do it.

A/C is your friend!
My mom (now 86) has been with us on most trips. She LOVES all the shows - ALL of them!
Crowds are hard for her, she get jostled and easily turned around (she's still very mobile). Rope drop helps a lot and finding out of the way "quiet" spots is helpful to just get a break from the crowds.
