Hello Everyone..

When you leave your tip with the Envelopes...Can you leave a personal check?..

I dont plan on taking alot of cash on board..

Has anyone done this?..

Thanks in advance

Bobby

I don't know that this would be a good idea, even if it is allowed. For starters, who would you make the check out to?

It would probably be easier for you to pay for your tips at the Guest Relations desk (I think they give you receipts to put in the envelopes) before the last night. That way you can use a credit card, check or whatever.

A lot of the crew members will not have a bank account to deposit the check into.

I would suggest charging to your shipboard account (your credit card) If you don't have a credit card, then you would need to make sure you have enough cash. If you are afraid to carry cash, look into carrying travels checks and having those applied to your onboard account.

Guest Services will also cash your Travelers Checks - I remember there being a limit as to how much they would cash each day (an amount I never reached) but they will do it.

Guest services will cash a personal check (there is a limit) or a traveler's cheque...or allow you to bill to your stateroom account. Bottom line, no, you shouldn't write a personal check to the servers or room stewards. Many times, the name they use on the ship isn't even their real name (it's generally something that was felt to be easier for DCL guests to pronounce!)

You don't need to bring a lot of cash, but do plan to cash a personal or trav. cheque for tip money if you don't want to charge them.

Cash is better please. If the CM's are heading home just after your cruise, most of them do not live in USA - but they can change currency at the airport. Cheques wouldnt be paid into their USA accounts in time for transfer to their own accounts at home. Just take enough cash with you - and put it in the cabin safe until the end of the cruise. I agree no checks. Cash or charge them.

FYI, there is a difference between cashing a traveler's check, and paying with a travelers check. When you are paying off your onboard bill, its amazing what they'll take....even Disney dollars. (Not sure about firstborns though!) :p

MoranClan: so glad you are on board right now. Glad you took a little cash, but make sure you spend most of your money on yourselves! It takes a lot of hard work to save up for a Disney cruise, and you are the most important people on board! Am sure you will bump into DD if you visit Palos - but I hear there may be schedule rearrangements in Palo, due to the change of destinations and days in ports. Make sure she saves you some Lemon Meringue Pie and Cappuccinno Mousses though!hehe. Have a MAGICAL time. Nat:Pinkbounc
