That's it, I'm getting a new stove/oven. I think the thing's older than me. The top cracked right along the edge tonight. Out it goes.

So, what do you like about your stove/oven? What don't you like? I'll be getting a gas stove, like I have now.

My brother mentioned having a timer on his oven but also mentioned how icky the food would get just sitting there waiting for the timer to start the oven...I agree, ewww.

And what about the broiler part? The one on mine isn't even usable. The flame is directly on top of the pan so, all it does is burn. It'll be nice to get a new one that I can use.

And, since I have NEVER shopped for one of these, what can I expect to pay?

TIA
:D

Kim.... go see my friend .... he is doing appliances at the big new Sear.. but it is not named Sears anymore..... something like Great Indoors?? He would be more than happy to help you choose the best stove. Average Stoves run btwn $400-$800.

I have purchased several different stoves during our adventures in moving. I was won over by gas. I recommend getting one with sealed burners, easily adjustable racks, SELF CLEANING OVEN!!!. oh ya.. make sure that the feet are height adjustable that way even if your floor is sloped your stove is balanced.

Would you be interested in a stove top and wall ovens? I loved having two ovens when I had the seperate stove top and wall ovens.

Have fun shopping dearie!

With the recent saga with my wall oven, I can say that it is has been an adventure.

I was limited due to the size (only a certain size of wall oven would fit)., but found a nice GE that meets all of our needs.

I looked for self cleaning (that was a biggie for me)

I've never cooked on a gas stove before, so I don't have any helpful hints.

Good luck finding you a good stove, Kim.:)

You know your cooking style. How often do you cook? Do you like to cook? Do you like to bake? These are the first questions that need answering before you buy an oven.

I love to cook and I really wanted a Viking, but I didn't want to pay the $$$ for one. I wanted the look of a commercial oven, but not the pricetag. We went to a local appliance store to a friend of ours who owns it. He showed me some middle of the road ovens/stoves and then I saw it... a GE Profile, stainless steel oven. I was told that it was the closest thing to a commercial stove in the consumer line. My oven has 3 racks and is wide and huge. It is a self-cleaner (mandatory, IMO) and has full grates on top, so if you want to slide a pot from the burner to the center of the stove, it doesn't fall in between the grates. The broiler is in the oven and there is storage underneath. My MIL liked what I bought so much that she bought the same one.

This one fits my lifestyle and my cooking style. My sister just bought a GE, not a Profile, that is smaller than mine, but has the same bells and whistles. This will fit she and her DH very well as they like to cook, but not to my extremes.

Good luck in your quest!

I just got a new gas stove. Self-cleaning was the number 1 item on my list. I agree with Mamajoans suggestions. The adjustable feet were a life saver for me cause my house is very old and definately NOT level. Good luck.

Wow, thanks everyone. I hadn't even thought (or known) about sealed burners Vs. grates. Have to think about that or, see them first hand I guess. Self-cleaning is a must for me, too. :p Joan, where's your friend working these days, same store as before? I can't do a wall oven, there's absolutely NO room.....remember, I don't even have room for a mini-dishwasher!

Again, thanks!!
