Tips for bag search

If I put the kids sweatshirts in clear ziploc baggies will security ask me to remove them? I was also thinking of putting our "random" things in a ziploc bag too, sunscreen, wipes, tissues, bandaids, etc. I have to bring a backpack with us and I was hoping to make things easier, not more difficult Any tips (besides don't bring a bag)?? I would probably have the sweaters in the under the stroller storage, if they are not in bags but just "thrown" down there, will they make me take all that stuff out too?? Which brings up another question... do they only search bags or do they search under the stroller storage? I may be able to put all of our items there and put our camera's around our necks. Would that save us anything? Trying to minimize our delays at RD!

Really try to cut down things to take. Have the kids wear their jackets around their waists. I take a travel nylon purse that can be stuffed into the ride holders. I only take a wallet, small water bottle lipgloss etc. Nothing is more cumbersome and uncomfortable than a huge back pack being hauled around the parks. If you have too I understand sometimes it is the only way but other than don't bring a huge bag, get in to the line early for bag check. The officers are very nice and pretty quick.

Security doesn't ask you to remove items from your bag. They just check inside all compartments so all openings (zippers, snaps, etc.) must be open. Not sure about strollers; we always avoid standing behind stroller people at bag check.

Good suggestion on the sweatshirts, so simple!

I'm going to try and bring as little as possible - the backpack that I'm going to bring is one of those packable ones that fold down really small into a pouch so I thought if I put the stuff under the stroller and not in a "bag" if I could eliminate the "bag search".

Haha, I can understand that The zipper thing is why I bought a new backpack - my old one had like 6 zipper compartments

They do look in the back of strollers. Also if you have any kind of camera bag, they will look in it as well. They just poke around, they don't make you take everything out. I think they did make DH move a jacket in the back of the stroller once so they could see what was under it. It really does go pretty fast.

I agree with this. If you have a bag within a bag, they will probably ask you to remove it and then open it up. So, packing a camera bag in a backpack and not having the camera bag opened will cause a delay.

I am not sure about the sweatshirts in a clear bag because, as a security person, I would be thinking, "what is wrapped inside that sweatshirt?"

The other items the OP mentioned would be fine since you can't really hide that much in those objects.

To the OP - think of yourself thinking about your family and then decide what you want to do for safety. Bag checks, no matter how much people complain about them, take less than a few minutes and then you can be carefree for the rest of your day.

But, even with the most diligent of security guards, bag check still only takes a minute.

IMHO, the biggest slow down of bag check is a combination of too many zippers and guests who are not prepared. I start unzipping everything as soon as my bag hits the table so that it is ready by the time I get tot he guard.

DITTO! The quickest way to get through bag check is to not bring 1,000,000 things into the park. They do check the bottoms of strollers and any zipped stroller compartments as well. With bags, they generally just like to be able to see/feel the bottom of the bag.

With extra clothes, we do tie sweatshirts around our waists (or just wear them) until inside the park. I do bring extra outfits for the kids in ziplock bags that I throw into the bottom of the stroller. One outfit per bag so that it's easy to see all contents.

Went once in January and it was in the 30s. Not only did we need sweatshirts, but also winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves! It even snowed early one morning.

It also really depends on the person you get at bag check. I've had some just kind of poke around in our backpack and I've had some really check each section and dig all the way to the bottom. Doesn't really take long either way. I've found that people who are totally overloaded or unprepared (bag not unzipped, etc) hold up the lines the most.

We needed sweatshirts with coats over them one December. We started off the week just fine in tshirts and shorts. In the winter months, the temperature can be anywhere from 40 to 90, and it can change fast. We've been there at both ends!
