DH and I have never been to VB. We'll be going for 4 days in mid October. Can anyone give recommendations fo restaurants, activities, etc? TIA

If you are going w/o kids, stay away from the "family pool" (the only pool) and use the beach if you want any peace. Also avoid mid to late afternoon when they blare "activity music" around the pool/jacuzzi area.

The martini bar (Green Cabin Room) and Sonya's (semi-upscale dining) are worth it for adults w/o kids. These two gems make it worth our stay.

I guess it all depends on what type of person you are. We are empty nesters. We really enjoy the activities around the pool. I probably look pretty stupid, but I love to join the kids and a few other adults for the Macarena, the Limbo, and more fun around the pool. I agree with the Green Cabin. It is a great place to have a flatbread pizza and a drink. Depending on the time of year, it is best to bring some bug spray. I get bit up by those no see ums at night. Don't miss the evening campfire. Enjoy! :thumbsup2

We loved Vero beach last Oct. It was just DH and I. It was the most relaxing vacation. We ate breakfast at Shutters one morning, very good. The other days we had breakfast out on the balcony (had a 1bdrm so did some minimal cooking). Each morning we walked the beach down to the 2 big trees (you'll see them) then decided to either go to the beach or the pool ,that and where we would eat were our big decisions. We loved the Green Cabin room and spent a couple of evenings there. Yummy flatbreads and caesar salad. The pool bar had some good lunch choices as well. There was a really nice chicken wrap and the Cocolava frozen drinks. We ate at the Ocean Grill and loved it and Capt Hiram's was a fun kind of place. I brought bug stuff but we were not bothered by the noseeums. We drove down the coast road one afternoon and hit the outlets in Vero. We are planning to go again next Oct. It was a great time to go. Loved Vero. Either pick up some cheap chairs ( we got ours at CVS) or do the chair swap. Have a great time!

I haven't been to Vero in years, but I remember the pool area being overrun with kids constantly - so I concur the with "go to the beach" advice. I sold my Vero contracts last year, but I'm planning to book at 7 months for a solo trip next 4th of July weekend (figuring being on the ocean is slightly less disgustingly hot than being in WDW).

I can't get my boyfriend interested in going, or I'd book a long weekend there this November. We live on the other coast of FL, and when he was coaching a pro baseball team here they traveled to play the team (was Dodgers, now Rays) in Vero they stayed in the real Vero Beach. Although he grew up in a pretty crummy area, he said Vero was not very nice - and he's right! I have to show him how our resort is NOT in or like Vere :rotfl:

I'm looking forward to the rest of the ideas!

What week did you go in Oct? Were there any love bugs out? We just got back from VB, want to go again just me and the hubby in Oct......in a beach cottage!

Thanks everyone, How close is the resort itself to area reataurants, stores, etc.?

Ah... I didn't open this thread because I am ....with children.

Here's my google map of the area. The shopping is in green and the restaurants in blue (Ice cream in yellow!!). [Sorry about the taco bell/wendy's listings sometimes you need to know these things!] Click on the marker or the listing and it will give you info or location.

If any one has a good restaurant to add let me know!

My favorite comment after going in Feb...... go Kayaking!!!! There are a variety of different kayak tours offered by good tour operators (Disney uses them). I'm sure the kids only go on the basic one and even then, not many.

Lisa,

Thanks so much for the lists of all the local restaurants with addresses and phone numbers. We are going next June with our traveling friends and that will be a tremendous reference for dining and shopping, again thanks for that!

We were at VB a couple of years ago in October and there were very few children in the entire resort, let alone at the pool. Might just depend on exactly when during the month you go. Several times we had the entire pool area to ourselves. While it was hot, there also weren't very many people on the beach either.

A couple years ago at the end of August we were there when tropical storm Ernesto came through. It really turned out to be a non-event, but at least half of the people there left and headed home or to another destination (particularly families). It felt like a ghost town for a few days.

Great to hear this! Our next trip will be planned for first week of October, so here's hoping for the same! :thumbsup2
