Tips for a cheap trip to DLR...

Note this won't work for everyone. If you are willing to take credit hits (some aren't) you can make a pretty cost efficient trip to DLR. We first (my wife & I separate) applied for the Southwest cards that offers 2 Roundtrip flights with SW after 1st purchase. We made our purchases in Late Feb. and by early April we were able to book our flights. There is a catch, you may have to pay an annual $79 annual fee. The reason I say may is I was able to call and have mine waived for the first year however, she was unsuccessful. So we actually have 4 roundtrip flights for the $79 annual fee of her card. Like I said it probably depends on who you get on the phone from chase whether you can get your annual fee waived but worth a shot nonetheless. They say on the Southwest page 2 roundtrip flights is only a limited time offer and in Feb. they were only advertising one so I'd jump on it considering the flights won't expire since they are distributed to you via rapid reward points.
Next,
I left my job at an IHG hotel so I lost my employee discount so were scrambling for hotel rooms and I stumbled on the Marriott Premier Chase Visa offer. Can't 100% recall what the offer was but we have 7 or 8 (depending on the tier of the hotel you select) free hotel nights at a hotel about 5-6 miles off disney property! NOTEThe Marriott's close to the gate aren't eligible for the 7-8 free nights as they have tiered the hotels based on I assume amenities and proximity to major attractions such as Disney. So if you want a walking distance hotel odds are that at the most you could get 1 free night with this offer Call chase beforehand to find out all details as I am vaguely describing it. This card to has an annual fee but it is waived for the first year and you can cancel the card after 6 months so pretty much at the cost of a little hit on your credit you can get 7-8 free nights at a Marriott hotel. Make sure not to cancel this one before 6 months or youll be subject to paying the cost of those hotel rooms.

Like I said call Chase for details before applying. I'm not here to debate whether it's worth it for each individual person to apply to take the credit hit for the credit inquiry just passing along some info that may help others. I also think your credit has to be at least average to be accepted by Chase. My Marriott offer wasn't automatically approved it had to be reviewed so if that happens to you I urge you to call them and sell yourself on why you can handle this credit card it may help you get approved by them.

If you have children (we are expecting but won't be here by the DLR trip) you'll still have to pay their airfare.

In conclusion,
This won't work for everyone because they don't want to take the credit hit or they want to stay within walking distance to DLR. It works for us because we found out after we booked our trip that we're expecting (can you say budgeting) and with my wife expecting she doesn't want to walk anymore than she has to and would rather drive to the parks.

Also wanted to add we also had the Disney Chase prior to this and have saved up enough reward dollars to pay for one of our admissions. We got a $200 gift card offer for the regular Disney visa when we signed up but the current offer doesn't seem near as good.

I suppose it's nice that you get perks with your new credit cards, but good luck qualifying for a loan for a car or house in the near future if you have a lot of credit cards. We recently refinanced and they watch your credit card activity very closely - and I only have 2 credit cards.

Personally, I would rather save my money and pay, or use a discount offered by a current credit card due to points I have earned. But again, that's just me.

Oh goodness no, I wouldn't give the credit card companies any more business regardless if it meant going to Disneyland. If we don't have the cash to buy something than we we save until we do, period. I'm glad it worked for you.

Thanks for the tips...I also use my cards for every purchase (gas, food, etc), and for the past 3 years always paid them off each month, and for this trip I have a $750.00 reward card to use anywhere at Disney (the 2nd one I have used). Not to mention the Disney Chase will get you a half priced stroller at Disneyland, a free 5x7 picture daily with a private meet and greet with a few different characters (we love this perk too because they always spend sooo much time with our daughter. The key is to ALWAYS pay off your card at the end of the month - no excuses.

Ditto! :thumbsup2 Our cards give us money back so we use them all the time for everything including DLR. And pay it each month. We would never dream of taking a trip if we didn't have the money to pay for it in the bank. Although I didn't get the impression that the OP was saying to put it on your card and just make payments. It sounded like he just got a deal with his card company.

I'm not opposed to deals with credit cards, but we don't get cards with an annual fee.

Also, don't think you need to have a Disney Chase card. There are other cards that can give a better return depending on your spending habits.

The big part with the cards with the great promo offers is to remember to cancel them so you don't get stuck with the annual fees! If you have good credit to begin with and don't carry balances on your cards, the credit inquiry shouldn't hurt your score too much. We've always done promo offers like this and my credit score is over 800, so I don't think the activity can hurt your score that much without other problematic factors.

We pay ours off every month and we're disciplined enough to stick to it to work for us. I monitor my credit score every month and it hasn't seen much effect so I doubt it will stand in the way of me buying a car and or house. I know it's not for everyone and knew it when I posted it but just wanted to let others know of the savings we experienced. For the record we intend to cancel after the 1st year if the annual fee isn't waived.
