Tips for a BAND TRIP Requested

We have to get my son all packed tomorrow night. His bus leaves Friday at 3:00 PM and they are supposed to arrive Saturday at noon. They are stopping at the AK first since check in 3:00 pm . They are going to be tired. Weather looks good but hot for their march on Sunday. We are flying down Saturday so we can watch him march.

Our kids left at 8 pm and got to their FL hotel at 4 pm. My ds hardly slept at all on the bus! He kept thanking me for not making him ride the bus home. lol

Have a great time...

Our band left at 11am Sunday and arrived at Epcot at 9am Monday in the pouring rain and toured Epcot all day and checked in to the hotel at 11pm. They were really tired and smelly. I'm glad I didn't ride the bus.

Our band is marching Spectromagic April 25th! We have 200 members
in the band and they will be in their formal uniforms. It will be the last time we see our daughter march before she goes to college!

Awww....:lovestruc

This is a great thread, thanks for all the tips. We just had our parent meeting for our band trip next April. Yes it will be the week before Easter and yes it will be crowded but all are very excited. I liked the plans for the kids but not so much the hotel (Clarion Maingate) but by the looks of the itinerary they will be there to sleep and shower and that's about it. I will be parked at the Dolphin! :thumbsup2

We too will have the 24 hour bus drive down then they drop our kids off at TL or BB for the better part of the day, then off to see a Blue Man Group show which will keep them off their feet when they are dog tired from that bus trip and waterpark! They will be marching in one of the MK parades although they don't know which one at this point and doing the music workshop as well. They will hit all three parks, stay till closing at Studios, Epcot and MK.

DH and DD will fly down early for a couple of days as DD's college schedule doesn't match the HS one :sad2: then i will join them after DS gets off on the bus. DD will fly out and DH and I will get 3 adult days together! :yay:

We just returned from our son's final band trip:sad1: (they performed 2 years ago too when he was in 10th grade). . .we were there 4/14 - 4/18 and I have to say that the crowds were NON-existent and very managable up until Palm Sunday (4/17) that is when the crowds were out in full force . .. :scared1:

They stayed at All Star and believe me, they didn't even know what their resort looked like . . .their itinerary was ridiculous! They had them moving every minute . . .at one point we met up with my son and his gf and they were saying that their chaperone was so exhausted that he was probably sitting on a curb somewhere crying . . .:rotfl:

It was a great time and you'll have a blast! Nothing like seeing your kid march down Main Street USA . . .brings tears everytime!

I agree about the hotel. My DS's marching band was there the last week of March and marched at the MK. They stayed at the Comfort Suites Maingate East and all they did was sleep and have breakfast there. We also stayed there. They didn't even get a chance to swim. It was a very rainy week but they did get to march. It was great to see them come down Main Street. They reversed the way the parade came so we got the castle in the background as they came up Main street from Frontierland.

Good luck and have fun.

I've already looked up spring break for 2013...our band goes every two years, and break is Easter week that year. Great, I've always wanted to go to Disney during Easter week.

I'll have 2 kids marching that year, rev dh will be working so it will just be dd & I for the first part of the trip. I'm ready to start planning....

Our band is leaving this Wednesday and I found out yesterday my son can't go! He's failing Senior English! I am heartbroken. :guilty: Two years ago I started trying to convince the director to take the kids, and now he finally is. Of course, I'm going as a chaperone and now my own child won't be there. I'm so sad....

I just read this post while looking back a few pages, this is so sad. :sad1: Kids really do learn some painful lessons along the way don't they.

I will tell you, from band director's perspective, the biggest complaint we have about our trips to WDW is that band members don't have enough free time, and we like it that way! :thumbsup2 The busier they are, the less time they have to get themselves into trouble. We have been to WDW 4 times over the last 12 years and have had only minimal issues. Most of those are just trying to get lights out at night. Band Trips are the ultimate commando touring!

if yes, do they use SCAL with the cricut machine??
this can be cut in your school colors
WalkTrail082.jpg

info for it is here

lots of other Disney stuff too but that says band the most

Reddy,

I have used a lot of your cuts for SCAL and they work great. We just got back from a band trip and I have cut your individual Mickey and gang. I can't cut this one because I only have the baby cricut.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Everything that gives onsite an advantage is pretty much isn't needed for a band trip.

ME
Park transportation
Dining plan
maybe EMH
free parking

For us we needed to keep the cost down as much as possible so we could get enough kids to go. Our hotel cost $90 per night 4 kids to a room with Queen beds, a micro and fridge. Also it had a great pool complex and a good enough free breakfast.

One major plus to off site is that there are not tons of buses right outside your resort that the kids could use to go anywhere. :scared1:

The kids marched on Sunday with no problems. The weather was a little warm but picture perfect other than that. Most of them left last night from Epcot after Illuminations and got home a few hours ago.
