Tips for 1st timers in Las Vegas?

Has anyone got any tips for MUST DOS when in Las Vegas. Any help would be much appreciated. Ta.

Go on the flight over the grand canyon and the hoover dam! Scenic airlines offer various packages for this and they are very reasonable!!

Don't spend all your time in the casinos, have a look around all the hotels on the strip they are amazing!! We stayed at Treasure Island at the top of the strip and they had a great battle ship show on everyday!!

Just to let everyone know, they recently tried to change the "persona" of the Treasure Island to make it more "sophisticated". Now it's just called "TI". They also changed the show in the front to be a bit more adult. It's supposed to be about sirens or something like that.

We used to go to Las Vegas at least twice a year until our kids came along. Now we go twice a year to WDW! Both are great vacation spots. One recommendation--get maps, tour guides, etc., BEFORE you get there. The casino hotels would love for you to never leave their doors for the entire vacation and indeed you can spend all your time in them. However, if time permits, I would highly suggest renting a car and taking a few side trips. I would highly recomment Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, both an easy day trip from the Strip. However, don't look for maps, broucheres, etc., in the hotel. They won't be found. The hotel wants you inside their property, gambling away. You wont' even know there's a world outside! My suggestion--contact AAA or any travel club and stock up on local maps (not just the Strip, but the surrounding areas). Get a good guide book, such as Fodor's, to plan some away-from-the Strip trips. Believe me, the areas I've recommended are worth seeing and rival anything mortal man can build! But regardless of what you decide, do be aware that maps, travel info, etc. can't be found in the hotels. Bring your own!

I definitely recommend seeing at least one of the shows out there. We saw Cirque's Mystere last time and I would really like to see The Blue Man Group.

Restuarants we loved were : The Bellagio dinner buffet, Ceasar's Sunday Brunch, The Steakhouse at Circus Circus (to die for), The Top of the World for the revolving romantic restaurant on top of the Stratosphere (stunning views)

I also enjoyed going up to Fremont Street and seeing the different light shows.

I loved just looking around all the casinos on the Strip.

Shopping in The Venetian and the Forum Shops at Caesars were both great experiences.

I'd also recommend the buffet at Paris LV. It's a must everytime we visit.

I second the buffet at Paris LV - either breakfast or dinner.

My very favourite thing though is free - the music and fountains show at the front of Bellagio every 15 minutes. Just love it

I came back from my third trip to LV last month and loved every minute of it. My tips would be....

Take comfy shoes, you will walk around just as much as you would at WDW!

See a show, we went to see mamma mia at the mandalay bay. The showroom isnt that big so there isnt a bad seat in the house. A wonderfully up-lifting show.

Gamble!

The shops are fantastic, go to the forum shops at Caesars. Also there is the fashion show mall and the outlets too.

For food, I love The Steakhouse at Circus Circus, dont let the location put you off. Its one of LV top steakhouses. Also Mon Ami Gabi at Paris is wonderful, arrive early and ask for a patio table, you can watch the Bellagio fountains whilst you eat then - very romantic!

Talking of the fountains, these are a must watch. The Fontana bar inside of the Bellagio has a patio area where you can sip fancy or non fancy drinks whilst having the best view of the fountains possible. Get there about 7pm to get a good seat without too much of a wait.
