Tips for 1st solo trip?

I'm hoping to take my first solo trip sometime next year, and I was wondering if any veteran solo travelers out there might have any tips or advice for me. Some of these may be stupid questions, but there are a few things in particular that I'd like to know:

1. What time(s) of the year would you recommend for solo travel (if any in particular)?

2. What resorts would you suggest? (I'm assuming ASM, ASMo, and AS Sports aren't on the list! )

3. What are the best restaurants for singles, and are there any I should avoid?

4. Do all attractions have a single-rider line, and which makes for faster boarding-- FastPass or single-rider?

I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.

1. What time(s) of the year would you recommend for solo travel (if any in particular)? I like the spring or fall because of the special events. Flower and Garden in spring, and Halloween and/or Food and Wine in the fall.

2. What resorts would you suggest? (I'm assuming ASM, ASMo, and AS Sports aren't on the list! ) Port Orleans French Quarter is nice and small, not nearly as intimidating as some of the larger ones when travelling solo, but I've honestly had noting but good experiences solo no matter where I stayed.

3. What are the best restaurants for singles, and are there any I should avoid? Best, IMHO, are the ones that have group seating, Biergarten, Teppan Edo, etc. Meet lots of great people that way. Haven't had a "avoid at all costs!" experience at any restaurants yet

4. Do all attractions have a single-rider line, and which makes for faster boarding-- FastPass or single-rider? They don't all have one, but pay attention when in line because sometimes a CM will be looking for small groups or one rider to fill up a ride vehicle and you can get pulled out of line. I use the FP more than single riders, but if there's a single rider option available do that first and get the FP for an attraction that doesn't have that option

I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.

1) I just went, and it was great! Also, the Epcot festivals in spring and fall would be nice to go to solo as well.

2) I was going to stay at ASSports because if I'm going by myself I'm gonna be in the parks ALL DAY. However, I was able to rent some DVC points and stayed at the beautiful AKL - Jambo House. I think if you're solo, just stay wherever you feel most comfortable. When I go solo again, I'm going to try and rent points again and stay at BLT, BWV, or BCV. That way, I can just walk to the parks I want to go to.

3) I don't know if there are any restaurants you want to avoid, per se. It all depends on how you feel being alone. Teppen Edo and Biergarten would definitely be nice, or a buffet like Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's would be fun. As a solo diner, I got a walk-in at Sci-fi Diner, which was a lot of fun and the table was the perfect size for me to stretch out!

4) I'd say go single rider if you can and get a FP for something else. I was pulled out of line every single time I rode ToT (4 or 5 times) to fill in empty spots - the first time it happened, I was back about 15-20 people in line, but was the only solo rider when they called for one. I was so far back I couldn't believe the cast member even saw me when I put my hand up! Also, as a single, you can go a lot further when they tell you to "move forward and fill all available spaces." Families tend to congregate and stay put where they are, and you can walk right past them (hey, the CM said to!). This works at HM, ToT, RnRC, Dinosaur, and any other ride that has a pre-show.

Thanks for the great tips! The Flower and Garden event sounds really nice- I love flowers and plants, even though I'm not so good at growing them myself (they usually wither as soon as I enter the room )!

I'm really looking forward to planning my trip, with lots of help from my fellow Disboarders!

Last year I went in the middle of May at the tail end of the Flower show.. it as a very good time as crowds were on the low side. Be careful to not hit the Star Wars weekends that happen right after the Flower show. Hollywood Studios will be CROWDED on the weekends.

Also, I have a tendency to over plan my Disney trips with dining reservations and such. Make sure to leave yourself free time. This next trip, I am doing the quick service meal plan so that I can eat anywhere and not have to be somewhere at a set time.

I usually go in September but will probably go in December this year
2. What resorts would you suggest? (I'm assuming ASM, ASMo, and AS Sports aren't on the list! )
I have stayed at POFQ, Pop Century CSR and Grand Floridian
3. What are the best restaurants for singles, and are there any I should avoid?
Don't worry about the restaurants I have been made welcome at all of them even eating solo at Victoria and ALberts
4. Do all attractions have a single-rider line, and which makes for faster boarding-- FastPass or single-rider?

I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.

I have been to disney 5 times solo and have always been made to feel as welcome as any family.
