Friendly disagreement with a friend. I tip housekeeping once, at the end of stay. She tips nightly. We both bring envelopes from home. Am I being a cheapskate?

Also, how much is considered fair?

Toddy - the only thing about tipping once is you can get a different Mousekeeper each day. Therefore if you tip once, depending on what you tip, it can be a big bonus for that particular Mousekeeper.
We usually tip $2 per day (I'm a Mousekeeper's dream - I'm very particular about my room and straighten up before they come

Hi!
I tip every day, because the maids are not always the same every day. So this gives the maid that cleaned our room the tip. I tip 5$ a day. I put it on the pillow of the bed.
Sometimes they dont take it (Ill find it still in the room when we get back at the end of the day) I dont know why. I will leave the ones they dont take at the end of the stay. ;)

We tip daily. Your mousekeeper may change throughout your stay. We follow the $1 per person per night rule. If we are extra messy or demanding, I would throw in an extra dollar or two.

Our mousekeeper at WL was a master of towel animals and creative arrangement of our stuffed animals. Each day got better and better--the best was coming home one night to our stuffed animals on their own ride--they had been attached to the ceiling fan with plastic trash bags and they were whirling around the room while the radio played music! We laughed till we cried! Since this mousekeeper, who we met and personally thanked in the hallway, did not work on our departing day, I gave her mousekeeping envelope to the front desk to forward to mousekeeping central. I tip every day--but there was no way I was not going to say goodbye to and tip this excellent person!

Thanks for the replies. I assumed all the money was split amoung housekeeping, so I never thought that one person would get the entire amount. That is a good point. Will definitely tip daily from now on.

I am one who always tips daily at any place I'm staying.

But I remember one time back in 1996 we were at CBR and the first night I tipped mousekeeping, she left a note with the money politely saying that she will gladly accept the tips the last day of our stay. I thought it was interesting since I had never heard of that before.

Two years later I was at the YC and I started leaving the tips daily and it disappeared....go figure....

Q

I found a great website a couple years ago that has mousekeeping envelopes to choose from. I'm using them again this year to place my tips in these envelopes that I print out and take with me to WDW. Here's the website:

http://users.adelphia.net/~heidiw/maid_envelopes/

There are a number of envelopes to choose from. Our last mousekeepers wrote notes thanking us for the cute envelopes. They saw that I took a little bit of effort and thought about them before I arrived and they appreciated it.

We tip daily - usually $2 - $3 (there are 3 of us) and we keep the room very clean. I have printed out the "mousekeeping" envelopes for each night of our stay to leave the tip in! Where do you leave the tip (envelope) in the room? We usually leave it on the table where the TV is? Sometimes it is taken, sometimes it is still there when we return later in the day and housekeeping has already been there!!??
Also, does anyone know if they still have those "conserve energy/water" signs they had years ago that you can put on your door and they won't change the sheets on a daily basis, just give you fresh towels? thanks! :)
