I am getting a new washer delivered next week. Installation is included with the purchase. Should I tip the people who come out and get my washer hooked up and running? :confused3 If so, how much?

I would. I'd give the guy $10, probably.

I just had a new dryer delivered and did not tip. I used to deliver furniture when I was younger and tips were few and far between.

I always tip. Is your house hard to get into? Lots of stairs, do they need to remove doors? I usually tip 5 or 10 bucks each and offer a cold drink. I must also mention that in the past it worked out for us. We had the same Lowes delivery people a couple of times and they helped me dispose of an old appliance I coouldn't get out of my basement. Love those guys!

I had two guys come to put in my washer and dryer and just gave them $10 each and asked them what kind of drink they wanted.

I've never tipped for anything like that (my husband usually does that kind of stuff anyways, we opt for no delivery). Did they charge for delivery? Like $40 or something like that? If so, I'm sure they're getting paid... that's their job.

Hoem Deport contracted with these people for delivery and installation, so I guess you could say the delivery is paid for. We only have 3 steps into the house, or they cn roll it up a ramp through the sliding glass door if they want. So no, the placement isn't really tricky. They don't have to go down in the basement or anything.

I work in that type of service industry and tipping is not something that is expected.

Tipping should always be up to you anyways. If they arrived on time, went above and beyond (removing the old appliances), made sure you were happy with the product and placement, then I would do $5 or $10.

I'd not offer a monetary tip; however, I always offer delivery/service people water or soda or coffee. :goodvibes

That's too bad. Even my cheapskate dad tipped delivery guys. I always have too, even if I had to scrape change out of my vacation jar to do it.

Appliance deliverers get paid full wages by their employer for the services they provide, so nothing additional is required/needed (unless they happen to go way, way above and beyond what they're supposed to do).

Of course, this being the "budget board", there will be different schools of thought on this since in some locales, everyone gets tipped, regardless...

Was not too bad. I got paid twice minimum wage and my employer paid for my lunches.

wow, I have never tipped the delivery guys. We have usually paid about $80 for delivery, installation, and haul away (washer, dryer, or fridge).

I usually offer a bottle of water.

I used to tip for appliance delivery when I was younger and it felt awkward not to.

Fast forward through many improperly installed appliances, one that left water gushing out of my washer because the hose was attached incorrectly, a dishwasher that my husband needed to re-install, a refrigerator delivery guy, who I tipped $20, who ignored my pleas to remove a free metal piece off the top of the cart as he was moving it (thereby causing it to fall, damaging my hardwood floor: I did receive refund of $50 delivery fee for that one...) etc.

I pay the delivery charge, offer the guys a drink, and thank them as they leave. Works for me.
