Tipping & the New Dining Plan

Okay, another question about the MYW plus dining plan . . .
At most sit down meals the plan "includes tip". Does anyone know how Disney gives the server the tip or how much it is? We are going to be splitting some meals, so I figure we should leave some tip $ on top of the pre-paid plan tip. Thoughts . . . . :listen:

The plan gives the server a 15% tip. If you're planning to tip more, either for good servcie or because you cause the server extra work, bring cash.

Someone wanted to just charge an extra tip back to the room and that wasn't possible.

Service has to be poor for us not to leave a 20% tip. That said, I will be keeping cash for the express purpose of leaving an extra 5%.

Most waitstaff work really hard for their money. Waiting tables on the weekend was what got me to Europe and pay off my loans when I first started teaching school and wasn't paid a whole lot.

Most of our servers have been very good at WDW.

I thought I read, from someone on the boards, that is a server at Disney, that they add an 18% tip. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure.

We plan on having some extra cash on hand, for when service is outstanding, or when we order alcohol, etc.

15% is added to the dining package plans. The 18% was approved after the package plans were set for 2005. We are told package plans for 2006 will be 18% to the server.

I would be interested in getting your opinion as a CM on this issue: do you feel that the gratuity is sufficient on the new program, or will it actually be detrimental to you financially?

I don''t know how they handle this, but for all the old dining plans the servers would suggest the most expensive dishes as their tip was based on the register amount.

This is exactly what happened to us last week at Spoodles.
The steak was $27.99 and my husband asked if he could add the shrimp for the $5.99 add on price. She said "sure, why not add on both shrimp and scallops"!!

We didn't have room for desserts, but she insisted we get them to go!

I was almost embarassed at how high our bill was!
