As a child, we had Munroe Dairy for milk delivery for many, many years....

Earlier this spring, I was surprised to see that they're still around AND delivering to my neck of the woods (about 50 min. from my childhood hometown).

Anyway, I signed on because the prices were very good in comparison to what I was paying (I buy organic milk and it was running $3.99-$4.79 per carton depending on which store I went to). Munroe's milk is antibiotic and hormone free and $2.79 per glass bottle. We also love the lemonade (no HFCS) as well as some of the other offerings.

We usually order about $10-$14 worth of items per week and there's a $1.50 delivery charge. ($10 min. order per week).

That being said, it never occurred to me that I should have been tipping? A neighbor was interested in signing on and asked me what I tipped per week and I blanked. Ooops. Should I be tipping when there's a delivery charge? Our driver is very pleasant and helpful. There's no mention anywhere on the website re: gratuities. I figured I'd see if anyone else had this service and if so, do you tip and how much? Thanks in advance!!!!:goodvibes

hmm, we have a milk delivery service as well, but the delivery person owns the farm. so I never tipped.
didn't think of it actually, not even sure if I should have.
good question:thumbsup2

Interesting, I never would have thought to tip. I pick mine up at the farm and do a little thanks in a Christmas card but that is it. I dont think I would tip each week.

we have our milk delivered each week as well. I don't tip each week but i do tip him at Christmas time. We have the same delivery man each week and he is great about leaving our milk somewhere that isn't too hot (during that heat wave of 100 degree days, he would move the milk storage box somewhere shady.) We always get ice, etc.

I don't ever see him and never thought about tipping weekly.

PS-having milk delivered was the best thing ever. it's so fresh that i can't even tell you how much better it tastes.

I would think that it's the same as having anything else delivered. You tip restaurant delivery, right? We tipped the guys who delivered our new mattresses. I would tip any delivery person.

When we had milk delivery, I never tipped our milkman. I did give GC's at Christmas time. . .along with my mailman, bus driver, etc. Usually they are commissioned based route drivers. . .so I would say no they don't have to be tipped. It's different than pizza delivery, where they are making a minimum hourly wage (or less) and are dependent on tips. I don't order from Schwann's but I think it would be similar to that. Is it customary to tip the Schwann's man?

We've had milk delivery since my oldest turned 1 so over 10 years now and I've only ever tipped at Chrismas.

it's so fresh that i can't even tell you how much better it tastes.
My picky youngest child wouldn't drink the milk at Disney on our last trip because she said it wasn't as good as what we get at home.

We get a weekly organic produce delivery. At Christmas I tipped $20. in a "thank you" Christmas card. For weekly service people (ie. lawn guy, paper delivery, etc) a yearly tip is fine.
