I guess I am not very worldly, as I have never ordered room service any time I have been away.

How do you know how much to tip room service, when you have something delivered to your room.

For instance if you order coffee in the morning, or a couple of Mickey bars or cookies and milk at bed time? These items are free (right???) so how do you base how much tip you give?

If you were to ask for an extra pillow for your room, would you tip the person who brings it to you?

I have read where people say to keep $1 bills near the door, so they are handy, but how many of them do you give??

Just wondering.

Thanks

For a small order, say coffee and a danish, I tip $2-3 dollars.
For a larger order, like a full breakfast order or an order with 4-7 items, I tip $5.

We ordered cookies and milk every night and I tipped 2-3 for that and when we ordered 2 chicken tenders and 2 mickey bars I tipped 5.00

common sense would dictate that the tip should be commensurate with the size of the order....minimum $2-$3 for sure, and more if you order more....since the stateroom host would typically bring extras, like pillows, towels et al to your stateroom, you of course tip them at the end of your cruise....

We taught the kids to tip $1 if they ordered anything. At 11-12, DD would sometimes come back to the cabin alone, and LOVED to order Rice Krispies, Chicken fingers, or Mickey bars. Since it was always a small order, it was easier to just teach her $1 than to worry about size of order, etc. If there was an adult in the room (which would usually be a slightly larger order), I'd do about $3.

Yes, the food is free. Soda, however, was charged on our 12 cruises. I've read on the boards that it may now be free everywhere, but this was not our experience.

No, you do not tip your room steward for each little service--extra hangers, pillows, ice, etc. He/she will be tipped at the end of the cruise.

From what I remember...soda is free in the dining rooms and from the beverage station located on Deck 9. There is a charge for soda at any of the lounges, at Preludes and if ordered from room service.
